Trails in VA?

Hey everybody. Lookin for some mild trails for first time off roading experience in VA, preferably within 2 hours of Richmond. Anybody know a good spot? Thanks!

Try looking up the George Washington National Forest, lot's of trails/fire roads to cruise on.

Bald Mountain Trail off of the Skyline Drive is a good one. Takes about 3 hours to do.

Invert! We still gotta go wheeling sometime... our idea for going over Winter Break didn't work out so well haha. I was pretty busy, but I just got a 0 degree sleeping bag and a tent for Christmas so I'm down to go whenever you are. Anyone else interested?

It's legal as long as you stay on the "easy" trails. If there is an off shoot that looks hard and rocky it's probably because the NFS didn't put it there and the tickets run about $300. The trails probably closed right now but it might not be since it hasn't snowed yet. They usually shut it down in the winter. Sorry it took me so long to get back. For some reason I forgot to subscribe to this one:banghead:

Sorry this is an old page but is bald mountain safe to do on a stock Jeep?i don't have any friends with 4wd or own a winch.so I'd be going alone.don't wanna risk getting in over my head and getting stuck. I just have some 30s that are pretty aggressive. Thanks!

Freelance,

I dont know anything about the spot but I want to check it out too. Maybe some weekend in May?

I'll be putting on a winch soon so lets see what we can do.

It depends on what weekend. I work every other saturday then the opposite Sunday. i live towards Scottsville. Where would you be driving from?

Jack Burton 04-12-2013 11:07 AM

I'm coming from Sterling (near Dulles airport) but am available almost any weekend.

Mewing8 04-12-2013 04:42 PM

I'd be interested too. I live in Fairfax Station. I would have to go next time due to my steering column is in about 30 pieces in the middle of a rebuild.
