What type of camping?

Just wondering, does anyone like to camp on four wheel trips? And what do you bring? Tent? Pop-up? Sleeping bag on the ground? Post pics

I normally have done just 2-3 day easy back packing trips with a small tent. I've been getting into hammock camping though. My buddy has a full set up with a tarp ans everything so i bought myself a backpacking hammock. They're so awesome!

Like a hammock you tie onto trees?

You got it. They're made out of parachute material and mine has ropes with a loop on one end and an aluminium cleat on the other per side. Sets up in about a minute. I want to figure out a tarp set up to protect from wind and rain especially during the winter. Ill put up some pics later.

i enjoy wheeliing n camping in a tint over night then back to wheelin in the a.m but the hammock camping sounds like fun. waitin for pics:popcorn:

One of camp trips:

I don't have any pictures of the hammocks set up but I just took some in the house.

Here is how small it starts, it has its own little pouch that is sewn to itself

The cleat and loop at the ends

How you attach it to trees. You can adjust the length of the rope by feeding it through the cleat

Here is my first hammock that's the cheapo $15 one.

These little cords are a PITA when they get tangled

http://www.imgur.com/qgCqfl.jpg

And its harder to set it up because you have to use rope and tie knots to get the length right

They're pretty fun little things. They're very comfortable once you learn how to lay in them and you don't get as cold as you think you would. During the summer I just use either a fleece blanket or my fleece liner and when its colder at night I'm fine in my 20 bag. I will say it is interesting getting into a sleeping bag while in a hammock. My friend just bought a hammock tarp that ties to the same mounting points as your hammock but then stakes to the ground on either side of you so you can stay dry and warm. My brother and i slept in them when we went to Rausch Creek which had plenty of trees to hook up to. They're much easier to set up than a tent and you don't have to deal with rocks underneath you it fighting for ground space. All you need is two mounting points. One thing I want to try out is hanging two or three hammocks from the roll bars of a couple jeeps, I think that would be cool for camping in an open field or something.

jpi1, did you make that trailer??i want one of those!

invert where can i get one of those at? i think that woulb be a cool thing to try out this spring tiem

i LOVE to go camping and 4wheeling but my old comp crashed so i lost ALL my pics which stinks ide always set up a tent pretty much car camp. i use to live in phoenix and theres not really alot of trees in desert to tie things to so we would set up a 10x10 right next to the jeep. and the tent at the back of the jeep and have everything nice and close. keep the cooler in the car chairs in the shade. alwasy had a blast. plust it was so easy. not alot of planning needed.we would swim in the lake after the trails. hang out for a couple nights pack up head home. i think i need one of those hammoks. and a lil tarp.

They're really fun and not too expensive. You can get one like the red one for ~$15 or one like my blue one for ~$40 or go hard core and get one with double fabric, a 400lb load, and mosquito nets for $100+. Ill find a site for you hold on. I think REI might have them.

Yeah I had a hell of a time finding one that was rust free out here. Found it on CL listed for $1300 but offered $900 and the guy accepted. Then all the modding started. :punk:

JIMBOX 11-20-2011 06:05 PM

:D Yeah, checkout Terrain Rated off road tent trailers by Tentrax

Im planning a week camping/fishing/exploring trip up to the Allagash area in Maine for next summer. Anyone not familiar with the area, its about as far from civilization you can get in the northeast. Projected camp area will be approximately ~200miles from gas fill up -> site -> fishing areas -> back out.

allagash lake, maine - Google Maps

It all old logging roads up that way so some places. Some roads are currently used for logging operations, some not in 10+ years, so it could be some serious wheeling to get to where we need to go. Its going to be two trucks, my new Jeep and my pal in his pick up who is going to haul all the gas and heavy crap.

Sounds like a perfect trip to me!

There's some great camp grounds in the San bernardino mountains that are central to good trails. One of my favs is 7 Oaks near Angeles oaks. We go there quite a bit when the snow melts.
