Pressure Washed Inside of Frame - 9 Years Worth of Crap

Have a new (to me) '02 TJ - CT Jeep so it has some rust and couldn't wait to clean out the frame and body underside. I was surprised a Jeep as new as this still suffers from rust and frame rot from the inside out. Why doesn't Jeep change the frame design? With all those holes in the frame it is just prone to rust, unless you live in dry climate. I reached my fingers into the larger holes by the rear wheels and it was just filled with dirt and scaling rust.

First thing I did was put her up on jackstands and rip-out the rear plastic fender liners to get up under there also. I then pressure-washed the frame by sticking the wand in every hole and flushing until the water came out clean. I couldn't believe the amount of dirt and crap that came out. I went back and forth, front to back several times on both sides until finally declaring victory.

I am considering spraying the inside of the frame with Fluid Film after it drys out.

i just went out and poked around my frame a little and found exactly what you're describing:

I was really surprised that i found such huge chunks of rusty flakes inside my frame. Looking at the pictures, is this repairable? Or should i be looking for a new frame?

Wow your frame is nasty. I guess I'm lucky haha. Because the frame of the wrangler is exposed its prone to rust but it's a good frame if you take care of it.

Dude. That frame is bad. Mines got some light stuff but not that bad

I power wash the undercarriage and frame, axles and back side of rims after any off road trip, along with a hand wash. Bought the 05 rubi new in 04 and it still looks damn good on the bottom end and I wax it once a year, (helps on brush marks) and the flame red still looks new.

Shush before Chrysler goes unibody on the next model wrangler. The frame is fine as it is. It just needs to be maintained especially in the salt belt of the northeast. I'm going to get that Eastwood frame stuff after this winter. Mine is only showing rust at the TC skid but I don't want the elements to do to mine what I've seen on others.

bring it to a shop and see if they can weld a patch

those flakes in the pic are by far the biggest i've found - but i can find little flakes in just about every factory hole in the frame... maybe i should start looking for a deal on a frame?

i had scaling pieces but not thick chunks like that. What year is your tj? Have to consider all costs...
