I'm no CB expert, but it looks like you have it wired right. That ground is perfectly fine. On my dad's there is a "noise blank"(?) switch that cuts down on the static, but there always is static, it wont go away.

i installed something like a "ground lift" filter against the annoying noises, now they are gone and the CB works fine. sorry i don´t know the english word for that. but car audio experts must know what i mean.

.............also did you tune the antenna. You need a SWR meter to do it.

JeepGuyLJ 10-18-2007 10:03 PM

I didnt tune the antenna im looking for a SWR you think thats why i cant talk to my dad on any channel when he ueses his handheld cb.

4point 10-18-2007 10:06 PM

Good chance thats it. You will damage the CB if you transmit without tuning the antenna. I got mine at Frys for $10.00.

nicolas-eric 10-18-2007 10:14 PM

take care that the antenna has it´s coil on top and not at the bottom.
with the coil on the bottom it won´t work fine beside all the metal parts (body, spare tire, rollbar, etc.).

JeepGuyLJ 10-18-2007 10:15 PM

Cool i will give that a try thats not bad for 10 dallors, you have any pics of what it looks like cause the people at our Frys dont know what their doing.

nicolas-eric 10-18-2007 10:17 PM

that´s what a SWR meter looks like:

Nicolas i dont know what the coil is on the antenna but did my setup on the antenna mount look right. Thanks for the pics Nic.

There's good info on tuning your antenna here:

He's talking about a top loaded antenna, you're OK. You can't mount it upside down. :D

JeepGuyLJ 10-18-2007 10:28 PM

Oh got it, do i need to ground the antenna to something or is my setup right.

You should be grounded through your bracket. I usually scratch the paint away from the area around the mounting bolts to make a better ground.

JeepGuyLJ 10-18-2007 10:36 PM

How do i actually ground there is hole right next to the antenna on the left side of the mount but what i dont get is were do i run the wire from the antenna to the mount.

4point 10-18-2007 10:40 PM

Go and look in Communications at the CB threads. Someone posted a pic of the ground wire on their antenna bracket.

JeepGuyLJ 10-18-2007 10:41 PM

Hey thanks alot for your help 4point.

X2 BIG TIME: I do not see a ground for your antenna bracket. I installed a k40 firestick and grounded the bracket using a heavy gauge wire to the driver's tail light bracket. I drilled a small hole in the side of the tail light and filled it with black caulk to seal it. The directions for the antenna specifically state you need to ground the bracket so start there first.

Tuning: You need to tune the antenna AND the CB or you could damage the radio. Read the instructions and tune your antenna first, set it and then tune your CB (if it has the option).

Noise Filter: If after all is said and done you still get "buzzing" when your engine is running, you can pick up a noise filter ffrom Radio Shack. Some radios have supression capability. Wiring directly to the battery shoud reduce noise.

Good luck and let us know how you make out. The feed back is good for the forum and other people.

Hey thanks Moz but what i still dont get and couldn't find in the communications tread on the froum was from what part of the antenna do i run the ground from here is a pics of what i mean.

Do i ground for the top side of the mount to the little hole thats already on the mount. Or do i ground from the bottom side to the body as shown with the little blue arrows.

How did you do the loop around the coax cable never seen anything like that. Sorry for all the questions.

4point 10-19-2007 10:43 PM

Thats not my pic. Its the one I was telling you about in the Comm section of this forum. :wavey: He used black ty-raps to secure it to the coax. :D
