Looking to buy a Jeep Wrangler
I have never owned a Wrangler but have always wanted one. I can no longer afford my full size truck so I am looking to down size.

I am thinking I'd like a 4cylinder to save soem cash on gas but that is not a must. I'd like something well taken care of and sensible miliage. I am looking to spend about 5000-6000. Does this sound doable or am I way off?

Thanks for the advice in advance.

I'm looking for my firts wrangler to. I'll tell you Aaron, from the looking I've done, it looks like you definately can find something in your price range. I would say probibably a YJ or an older TJ with >200k on it.
Also, my brother-in-law(who is a total jeep nerd) says that the 4 cyl's are pretty gutless. Do your reserch. good luck and don't buy the one I want:whistling:

buy a 6 save you in the long run ,thats just me tho,if ya could spend 10 grand you would get a ripper ,maybe one that a yuppie has, never been off road i hope soooooo

Yeah go with the straight 6. My buddy has 4 banger slightly modified and his gas mileage sucks and is underpowered. I think he's running 32s though and is an early 90s.

I don't want to sway your decision, but I can tell you that my JK doesn't get any better mileage than my '08 5.7l HEMI Ram truck did. Fuel economy and Wranglers do not go hand in hand regardless of engine.

As others have stated, if you can find one with the 4.0l you will be much happier in the long run than if you purchased one with the 2.5l or 2.4l.

Good luck!

Thanks for the advice all. I will lookin into the inline 6 then.

Funny you mention the dodge hemi, it will be an '06 5.7l Hemi I will be moving from.

Anyone know of specific problems in Wranglers that I should look for if I do find one I like? Of course I will have a non partisan mechanic look through it, just asking if there is something Wrangler specific to look out for.

Thanks Again.

If you think about 14-16 mpg is that much better than your getting now. I say go for a jeep... If your hoping to see 18+ all the time, you better start looking someplace else.
When my 98 was still bone stock (225/75r15 tires and all) I saw about 17mpg maybe 18 on a good day... I now am happy to see 15mpg, and typically see 13-14mpg

As stated..fuel mileage and wranglers don't go well together .. you'll get 15-19 mpg depending on how you drive it and how its set up. I have an 04' rubi with the I6 pushing 33" tires and I get about if my wife drives it she gets about 15mpg.
