newbie question, about antenna

hey guys, i just joined this forum threw a quick google search. i am forum addict so the first thing i do before posting questions is do a search, when i search all that seems to come up is CB antenna conversions and stuff, so please dont flame me once i ask my question lol here we go!

i was installing my head unit today, (on my 99 wrangler, have had it for 7 years now radios been working fine) and when i went to turn the radio on it didnt work, so i removed the glove box and took a peak, the sneaky radio adapter cable was still attached.. hmm funny

so when i unplug the radio adapter cable from the stock cable ( which goes to the fender) i notice the male plug ( on the fender cable) is broken! i removed the pass speaker to take a closer peak and check it out, now heres my question

how do u remove the antenna from the fender? i didnt un screw the antenna yet ( its real dark out now) but i was curious if thats all it is, is unscrewing the antenna, and the plate thats on the side of the fender will detach allowing me to pull the cable out?

another question is, anyone know where i can get a replacement cable? seems like ebay only has the adapter cable theres one complete cable on there right now as we speak but i wouldnt mind buying one brand new

thanks for your time guys!

Open the glove box and reach toward the mount. Pull the antenna off the mount from the inside. Unscrew the antenna. Use a flathead screwdriver to pop the plastic cover off the outside. Unscrew mount. Your going to have a hole to fill but I guess you know that lol.

awesome thanks! so u unplug the fender side from inside the glove box? there was a little rubber boot on the inside which i figure had to be unplugged from the outside of the car

and that plate comes right off with a screw driver, cool! im going to tackle this tomorrow in the morning

any idea on where i can get a OEM replacement?

guys i am alittle confused.. you see my girlfriend (who drives the jeep daily) insists that this wire is the power wire... the stereo doesnt have any power right now

i tried explaining to her that its only for the am/fm radio but she doesnt want to hear it and insists that its the power wire

i took some pictures of it

http://i41.tinypic.com/9r6pep.jpg

the first picture is what the end has always looked like, now in the second picture when u detach the cables the male end stays inside the female and im left with this broken end

is this broken end an antenna wire or a power wire?

any help is greatly appreciated, to clear the story up she had this radio installed once we bought it, and the radio always worked, but the brackets that hold the radio broke, so she went and bought a new bracket and installed it, once she unhooked this wire it broke

well she explained this all to me, i told her the cd player should still work, but now the entire radio doesnt power up at all... i ordered a radio cable off ebay that looked like whats in my hands, and traced it back to the pass fender thinking it was the antenna, but now without the radio having power im having second thoughts...

thanks guys

Are there any aftermarket antennas that improve radio reception?
