PCM fix .... negative!
 
1300-mi and my 2012 JKU has been carried to the dealer twice on a roll back!

I continue to burn-out "coil packs"!

This 2nd time and after waiting 10-days for a PCM, it arrived, today.

It was installed, the engine ran for a "X" minutes and DAMN, fried another coil pack :banghead:

Service Manager is at a loss, as is CHRYSLER! Tech support has told the dealer to start tracing wires and look for a short (miles of wire). The Service Mgr admitted, they may never find the cause.

1300-mi, an Expensive Vehicle and here I set in a loner, not MY Jeep.

If you think waiting for a Special/Custom order Jeep is bad, you just do not know. These two visits to the shop have hit the 13-day mark as of today. The dealer, says he has no honest idea when, I'll get it back :banghead:

I fell like hell right now!

I've only been loosely following your complaints here Willie, but I feel terrible for you. Why hasn't the decision been made just to get you a new Jeep? The dealer could swap your mods over free as a showing of good will.

I think it is time you schedule a conference call with the service manager and the Chrysler service rep for your zone.

Chrysler should put you in new Wrangler and pay for mods to be swapped. I've seen them pick up the tab for that sort of stuff.

Sticky situation, there. You're not so heavily modded as to eliminate pushing the issue with Chrysler to buy it back, especially considering you got a response from your dealer of "We don't know when you'll get it back". That's unacceptable, period. Tell them you want it fixed as soon as they possibly can (it had better be a priority for them), and work with them to set an expectation of how long you should go without your Jeep, before it becomes the Dealer and Chrysler's problem. Electrical problems like this can be nearly impossible to trace, and often affect more than one system. That's a big voltage spike to fry one of the coil packs that quickly. The last thing you need is for your Jeep to burn to the ground, because they thought they fixed the problem. Be polite, but firm. Attitude will get you everywhere here.

You will probably now qualify for the Lemon Law in your state, maybe look into that as well, if you start getting the runaround. That process REALLY sucks from what I understand, though.

That really sucks, and good luck!! Keep us updated.

Lemon Law was revised in VA in 2011

Basically:

1. 3 warranty claims in 18-mo
2. 30 days in shop (time is accumulative) under warranty period in 18-mo
3. 1 SERIOUS Safety claim

The Dealer knows this, so I am close to a Lemon Law Claim (have even selected a Lawyer). Chrysler, I undersand, is difficult to settle Lemon Law claims.

The Servicing Dealer, is not the Selling Dealer :nonono: I purchased my Jeep 50-mi from home, as they had the ONE I wanted "in stock".

Both times the engine "suddenly died" on the highway, I was only about 10-mi from the Servicing Dealer, so that is where Chrysler Roadside Assistance wanted to take my dead Jeep. Was OK with me!

Have the dealer check the harness connectors on the cam and crank sensors. Don't ask me why, just something passed along to me from our shop forman

Right. Pat's got it about how I would envision. I mean, c'mon. Given the apparent inability to determine a cause, does anybody involved really think this isn't heading for a lemon law issue? It's just a matter of time.

Even if approaching the matter from Chrysler's side, I'm not really losing much by just going ahead and replacing the Jeep. After all, you've paid me for a Jeep and I do in fact get the old Jeep back. And if I can ever repair the old one, I can sell it as gently used meaning I'm only out the difference. I'd no doubt spend more than that paying for warranty work in perpetuity and/or taking it back under a lemon law claim, so why bother?

This is a "one off" and an unusual issue. If I'm the rep, I'm thinking swap it out and bring it back in house for study and perhaps later return to the market. Repaired, of course.

Hang in there, Willie. The fact that the PCM swap didn't fix it just means that they have to look deeper.

The good news is, you'll either get this one fixed or they will have to replace it.

The servicing dealer is a good one, so you'll be fine.

I know it sucks to be paying for a vehicle that is sitting in for repairs, but Chrysler will ultimately make it right. Either by choice or because they are forced to do it.

Looooooooong story short, Got in touch with Jeep Customer care, after a 10-min chat, they told me to give them a few minutes!

5-min later, the Chrysler Customer Resolution Rep, whom I have been trying to contact for 4-days, called me.

10-min chat, I told them I wanted a new Jeep and that I was considering contacting a Lawyer next week.

She said to give her a few days, before I proceed:rolleyes:

Called dealer, no fix as yet, no idea yet why the cause of the electrical failure is.

Chrysler Customer Resolution Group promised a call back today, but none yet.

Monday will be 14-day in the shop this 2nd time!

There are NO other similair reported such problems with the 2012 JKU :rolleyes:

Got a call at 5:30pm this afternoon, from the Jeep Service Shop, saying my Jeep is fixed?????? Took the poor guys almost 2-weeks to locate this hidden demon and yes, they were doing their BEST?

It was a ground-wire, making contact with whatever?

They separated the two, it then started (believe it or not) and they drove it over 20-mi, no problems.

How the HELL can something so SIMPLE, cause so MUCH trouble and be so damn hard to find? Miles of wiring, covered, shielded and in extremely difficult to get to :thumb:

Again, this seems to be limited to only my unit as far as I can find out.

Words cannot describe how much I want to get back in my JEEP :D

Now, I can install my new "seat-covers" that came while she was in the shop.

Congrats!! Wow sounds like you just got the random bad piece of wiring. It could happen to anything. Could have just been a small nick in the insulation that wasn't caught in QC when they built the harness and then it just happened to make contact with something due to its location. At least they found it :D

When you pick it up maybe they can point out where the problem was? Hope they fixed it for you! :thumb:

Yes; Electrical problems can amount to chasing ghosts!!
I am glad for you that they were able to find it. Sometimes it has to be a major short before it can be located. Also Kudo's to the servicing dealer for putting in the effort to find it. Hope the best for you. And good luck on your upcoming retirement!!:thumb::thumb:

I think I would take the seat covers, and any other add-ons with me to the dealership, and tell them to install them, seeing that you couldn't in this whole process.....Just don't make them put the lift on it.

Damn! I was just going to post to check your grounds. I used to be in a VW club and some of them were notorious for gremlin-type, WTF NOW, issues. Issues that just had no rhyme or reason.

But damned if the gremlins weren't banished each time when the ground connections, ALL OF THEM, were inspected and cleaned if necessary.

Unfortunately, I have no idea where they all are on a JK yet.

I sure hope this is the resolution for you!!

Picked her up this AM and been in her all day running errands!

They even showed me the location of the ground fault.

The notes from my 2nd visit:

“Diagnosed and found damaged coil and checked for shorts. None found. Found voltage and ohms are the same as other cylinders.. Replaced PCM & Test Drove. Coil popped again????? Instructed to hard-wire coil per “STAR” & replace coil. Found Map Sensor, TPS, & ETC ……. Lost Grounds. Found wires grounding against AC Line, repaired and insulated wiring over AC line.”

So far she is running like a top! :dance:

Being back in my 2012 JKU is as good as REAL sex :whistling:
