Best brands for chrome parts?

I'm looking to add some chrome parts to my Wrangler. I've had mixed results when buying chrome for other vehicles in the past, some look great when they're new, and a year or so later they're pitted and ugly. I thought I'd get some opinions and see what brands you guys recommend.

Chrome..............What is this chrome that you speak about?

Donn

I didn't realize this was a sensitive subject....

It's your jeep. Just a lot of strong opinions about jeeps and chrome on this forum.

Sadly it is. I get ribbed all the time for my grille :(

SidSpider 12-08-2011 07:20 PM

I'm up for strong opinions, I'd rather hear them before I've spent my money then after! However I've had the same issues with black powder coated parts. I had installed some black tube side steps on a Cherokee I used to have, and they were rusted within a year, I don't remember what brand they were. So I'll gladly accept any input on black parts as well.

Don't forget, no.matter what everyone else says. It's your jeep, do what YOU like :thumb:

It's not that chrome is a "sensitive subject" here, it is just that chrome is not a good choice for a vehicle that will be spending time off road. People are going to have their opinions and sometimes it would be better if they kept them to themselves, but alas that is not human nature. If you like chrome and want to have your entire Jeep chrome plated, that is entirely up to you. The great thing about these vehicles is that you can customize it any way you want. Every Jeep is as individual as you want it to be.

As for your question, there may be some here that can point you in the right direction but they are few and far between. Again, due to the issues that you have already raised in your initial post, chrome is not a popular modification on Wranglers.

X2.! It's his Jeep and he can do what he wants with it. If you can't post advice or help don't bother posting. :thumb:

I had chrome on my Yj
First jeep, young and did not know any better. Plus I had boat loads of time on my hands.
Chrome looks great against certain colors
Black/red/ pretty much darker colors.
Yellow/white ehhh
Very high maintenance. The jeep is an off road vehicle and you would be spending good money to destroy the finish if you were to take it off road.
If your jeep is a street queen like my Yj was-- do what you want its your jeep.
Unless your jeeps yellow Of coarse :hide:

Wish I had a pic after I installed the double
tube chrome bumper hoop in the front  lol

Have you thought of having a local plating company chrome plate your existing parts? Or possibly, buy used parts and have them plated. It may be a cheaper option. If the plating company is any good, you may even get a more durable product.

I'm just thinking out loud here.

andygio71 12-08-2011 08:38 PM

Don't forget about stainless parts too; they can look similar and (from what I've heard) are more durable

I agree fully. However I needed the Chrome to take away from my 'baby poop' green.

Very nice! I like! I wanted to but I'm afraid bedlined grill would look funny on mine. And despite all negative comments..I like my chrome :hide:

I personally dont like chrome. You also might get alot of hate on it because some refer to it as a more hummer thing to do. But remember, its ur rig so do what you want man

I got the chrome package that the dealership offered. Then got the chrome metal moto rims.

SidSpider 12-09-2011 05:17 AM

Thanks for all the moral support! My Jeep is light gray, so black or chrome would look good. I'm still not sure what brands of parts I should consider. If any of you have recommendations they would be much appreciated!

What parts are you looking for exactly? Like, wheels, bumpers, etc?

SidSpider 12-09-2011 06:34 PM

The first two things I'd like to do is replace my tailgate hinges, they are rusted and ugly, so I thought I'd get some aftermarket ones. Then I'd like to get some side steps or nerf bars. After that we'll see where it takes me!

JK-Junky 12-09-2011 06:38 PM

You have to be carful with the hinges, most of them are covers that tape on with 3M
