LockPick CHR550 available for 2012 Manual Transmission Now

Spoke to the people at coastaletech, they said they have updated the lockpicks to solve for the problem on the 2012 Manual transmission JK. However, the software update if you already own a lock pick won't be out for a couple of weeks (I've heard that one a few times before).

Djstorm100 12-08-2011 11:55 PM

Sorry but what is lockpick and why for manual as it doesn't have any electronic control other than neutral safety switch, reverse light switch, speedo

Lockpick is a device that overrides video playback and nav entry while moving on mygig. Those features were not working with manual transmission. It also allows cameras to be added. Those were working as expected.

Djstorm100 12-09-2011 01:19 AM

ahh gotcha, thanks for the info. Wish I had mygig but don't...oh well.

JustMike 12-20-2011 12:45 PM

Is this for the V.4 as well or just the CHR550?

foo.c 12-20-2011 02:00 PM

I have a question about this. I know it says it unlocks DVD in motion, but in my state they disable it for playback period. Moving or not moving.

Does the lockpick fix that?

basecamper 12-20-2011 02:20 PM

Ransom at Coastaltech told me via email last week that both the v.4 and CHR550 Lockpicks are completely compatable with my 2012 JKUR 6spd.

mpr131 12-20-2011 04:02 PM

Ordered mine after the update. I hope to install it next week and can report back if it's fully fixed.

Great I look forward to your report. Which version did you go with?

There are better deals out there for the same unit but would those have the update done if one buys it now, or is this something that CoastalTech is offereing to their customers only for their product?

Just got this note from them:

Thanks for the email. As a matter of fact, just this week our technicians finished our testing on 2012 Chrysler vehicles. Unfortunately, they have found that your vehicle is not able to be made compatible with the LockPCIk you have purchased.

Craptastic.

Apparently. I pinged them back. They told me 12/7 it worked after testing. Now it doesn't? Weird.

foo.c 12-21-2011 12:31 PM

I emailed them yesterday asking about the 2012 Wrangler with manual transmission. This is what they wrote back:

Thanks so much for your inquiry. Great News! The CHR550 is completely compatible with your particular vehicle and is the newest Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep multimedia LockPick that will unlock Nav in motion, video in motion, as well as include Audio/Video RCA composite video inputs and outputs (for inputting audio/video from an outside multimedia source as well as the ability to output any outside A/V source to rear screens), and 4 AUX video inputs!!! (For multiple cameras viewable on demand... i.e... rear, front, and turn signal cameras).

The new CHR550 also has built in iPod/iPhone/iPad integration for ALL versions of iPod/iPhone/iPad hardware and software with the standardized docking port! This LockPick will allow you to control and view audio from your iPod/iPhone/iPad on the Nav screen as well as allow the viewing of video directly on your vehicle’s NAV screen, all the while charging your iPod or iPhone. Thank you so much and have a nice day!

The features for the CHR550 as well as a pictorial demonstration can be viewed at CHR550 LOCKPICK.
If you are considering the installation of a rear view, front parking assist camera, or turn signal “blind spot” assist cameras, please visit, LOCKPICK CAMERAS.

What?!?! :nonono::nonono: This is no good. The key words in there are "not able".

+1

I emailed them as well to find out what might be causing this. I got a response that I think is stating "it depends". Wonder if it's a head unit issue? I have the 730N.

Here was my email to them:

Hey guys...I just wanted to follow up on my email. I just got my lockpick but in talking with folks that just heard back from your support [team]...I'm hearing that the CHR550 does not support vehicle-in-motion nav and video. Could you confirm this?

Thanks,
Mike
Here is there response:

Hello Michael,

Our engineering team has not been able to replicate that particular issue in the 2012 Wrangler with Manual transmission. In all of the testing we did, in several 2012 Jeeps with manual transmission, all of them worked without a single glitch. I recommend installing the unit to see for sure whether your particular vehicle will be one of the abnormal ones that will not function with the CHR550. But as I stated this is not the norm. All the 2012 Jeeps with manual transmissions tested have been deemed 100% compatible.

Being our direct customer you are also offered our one year warranty and life-time technical support.

Thanks for the email.
They later confirmed that if it doesn't work, they'll provide a full refund. That being said, I'm still going to install next week and can report back. I must admit, the support from these guys is superb. If it was an issue before it's definitely not one now--for me at least.

ndrugby 12-21-2011 07:38 PM

Well that sucks. So it's a glitchy thing that happens with some but not others? Just my luck. They need someone with one that doesn't work to drive over to them and let them test it on it.

Anyone live near Indialantic, FL and have 2012 6 spd with this issue? (boy is this question a long shot)

basecamper 12-21-2011 08:01 PM

ndrugby and others do you have the 730 or 430? I have the 430N and Ransom @ Coastaltech did ask speciffically what radio I had before providing the answer that both the v.4 and CHR550 would work

730n, the one other person I know with the issue also has a 730N.

Leonidas 12-22-2011 08:06 PM

Mine still doesn't work as advertised and I also don't get the auto switch day/ night nav screen. That function working for you guys?

I asked if it could be a head unit thing but he stated it worked on all units. I have a 730 too, so we shall see.

Your interior light/instrument panel dimmer control might be in the 'full brightness' position. Move it out of this position and the screen should go back to day/night auto-switching. This bugged the s&*% out of me for a few weeks.

Leonidas 12-22-2011 10:49 PM

I'll check the brightness, thanks

Epi 12-25-2011 08:02 PM

Just installed the lockpick...manual transmission and no video while driving. :(

basecamper 12-26-2011 12:06 AM

430 or 730 radio? disregard just saw your other post stating the 730. Anybody running this successfully with the 430 radio?

SlackerMD 12-26-2011 09:16 AM

i can confirm the "glitchiness" of this...99% of the time my CHR550 on my 730n does not override the in-motion features, however somehow i unintentionally triggered it to work while driving the other day and got my review cam playing for an entire drive. Now, that is not something i would normally want, but it seems to me now that Coastal should find it possible to override the in-motion somehow.

Fixed that issue, thanks!

foo.c 12-27-2011 03:44 PM

I finally got mine installed. No video in motion. Sent an email to their support.

Backup camera works great though.

Aftermarket systems are cheaper and don't need lockpick
