2000 Wrangler sahara, 159k miles...decent deal?

Hello everyone!!! This is my first post...of many to come after i begin modding .....but currently i am in the process of trying to buy a jeep(kinda starting to become obsessed actually)! I'm Specifically looking for the inline six, manual..... and after a ridiculous amount of research, ive found this jeep, its not crazy far away, and kbb puts the price right around what its priced at, just looking to get some peoples opinions on the possible buy, and if you have any jeeps your selling in fburg.....i would be greatly interested :thumb:

Oops i forgot to add the link, here it is http://www.autotrader.com/dealers/dd...JEEP&cardist=0

Also, the guy said he would be willing to go down to 8.5.....and that was over the phone

I recently ended my search so here is what i learned, be sure it is a southern jeep, so look under for rusty parts. If you intend on doing upgrades nothing is worse than a rusty jeep. I was looking for a 99 - 2000 sahara also for about 7-8000, as low mileage as possible. I ended up with a '03 sport but got it for 7k. I would figure that jeep wil need the same stuff mine needs with 121 k miles - new shocks, tie rods, control arms, steering stabilizer, drag link, trak bar. I plan on putting 1k into mine, including the other extras such as tops, covers, cb, storage etc.
Good luck with the search, stay neutral on a vehicle till it meets your minimum conditions.

$8500 seems high for 160k miles. When I did my search back in May, a TJ with those specs would be on craigslist (in Denver) for around 8k. And it would stick around for weeks...

Wow that's a crazy good deal, I did i quick pit stop to check it out, underside has almost zero rust on it, right side front fender has a small crack going up it, other then that the body and frame looks great, few scratches here and there along the paint but nothing I'm too worried about, brand new tires also....and yeah i really don't have a cap on the mods im gonna do to it, probably get a cold air intake, new shocks...whatever else it needs to have replaced at that mileage, then it will be upgrades from there on out, 2inch lift probably, some black rims....etc..it does meet my minimum conditions, just a tad on the expensive side; thanks for the quick reply!

mtb011 12-19-2011 06:32 PM

AC0QR-yeah it does seem a tad high, even though for my area, that's turning out to be the normal price pretty much, and the fact that its a Sahara makes it an even smaller margin to choose from, or an inline 6....mostly everything around here is the 4banger

wranglerTX 12-19-2011 06:41 PM

I think you should keep looking, $8900 for thoose miles sound a little bit expensive. be patience. It will show up.

mtb011 12-19-2011 06:59 PM

Yeah i may wait if i see any glaring problems with it...dunno yet

GoldenSahara00 12-19-2011 07:15 PM

I purchased my 2000 sahara with 119k on it, auto, inline 6, blah blah blah, for 5 plus tax (dealer) so, I think you can do better. But thats just me and prices vary based on location

mtb011 12-19-2011 07:35 PM

Wow thats a great deal, i found another one...its farther out, but has less miles and is cheaper!! with aftermarket wheels it seems, here it is...http://www.trustautoinc.net/1999_Jee...gler_144350412

I just bought my 2000 Sport with 180k (rebuilt engine at 140k) from private party for $7,500 a few months ago. Plus it has a 4" lift, SYE, hard/soft/bikini tops, and a bunch more upgrades.

$8,900 seems way high to me (for my area at least). Dealers will always be higher of course.

Make them an offer - see how low they will go! Good luck!!!

GoldenSahara00 12-19-2011 07:50 PM

Yeah I did get a very good deal, and it just fell into my lap. I did talk him down about 2 grand, saved him money cause he was going to tow it and sell at a car auction for probably less than I gave him that weekend so we both lucked out, haha.

your link didnt work for me.

mtb011 12-19-2011 08:44 PM

Sorry about the link, this one should work...1999 Jeep Wrangler - Trust Auto Chantilly, VA I might have erased a dot or something last time haha, jeeps 7.4k with 120k miles

mtb011 12-19-2011 08:47 PM

Golden did you have to rebuild the engine or something? What was wrong with it? jeese...5k is such an insane deal for that haha

Gorving3 12-19-2011 09:51 PM

160,000 miles on a 2000 seems like an awful lot. I have a 2001 Sahara 6cyl auto with hardtop I bought new, it has 62,000 miles and I thought that was an lot considering Jeeps normally aren't beaten down the highways like most sedans are. NADA clean retail on mine is $13,000.

Keep looking, there's bound to be ones out there with less mileage.

KKhamesi 12-20-2011 01:07 AM

im from va and i have a 2000 sport 138k auto everything for $6k

mtb011 12-20-2011 12:00 PM

Thanks for the offer, i'm only interested in a manual atm!

KKhamesi 12-22-2011 12:10 PM

no thats how much i bought mine for..... i should learn to write better

TheTJRod 12-22-2011 02:09 PM

How's it going mtb011! I'm in Stafford and use to live in Fburg! I got my '03 I6 manual with 56k for only $9k. Was an independent dealer on 610. You can find a much better deal if you keep looking. I waited 3 months till I found mine. Also when I learned more I found out it had a d44 rear.

edit: Also look up CVAJeepers.com for a good jeep club!
