Camp Pendleton area jeeper run

I am new to the area and do not really know any trails or runs around here. Would love to organize a run possibly new years or before hand? I have a slightly mod'd yj

Everything I know is either big bear and north, or east of San Diego, like Anza Borrego. Holiday stuff is busy but I was thinking about pancake rock thurs or fri.

I'm down for just about anything my rig can handle haha

Merlin75 12-20-2011 11:38 PM

Might be a group going to Pancake Rock just east of SD on Friday.

Plenty of places on Camp Pendleton. Just don't get caught. I second Big Bear. By far my favorite place to go. Its just that there is snow this time of the year. You can also try Truck haven out ocitillio wells.

My family is in town for the week. May be out there by 10am to join you.

There's a local San Diego group, 4X4Corps, lots of Pendleton (military) folks, they do runs on a regular basis. Check their website for details Pancake rock is a good, albeit short, leg stretcher. Take a look at Corral Canyon OHV just east of there, I'll probably be going out there next weekend to try out a new suspension. Plenty of challenges for most people. Also check Superstition Mt OHV near El Centro, some of the best wheeling in SoCal. SD4Wheelers will be holding their annual run out there in January

If your ever needing more rigs for a run, throw up a run thread on Militaryjeepers.com. We have a group of members in that area!

JYJeep 12-23-2011 06:07 PM

well, I made it to the trail head by 1000 air down and 4 vehicles pulled in and started upbound. I fell into the line after a coupl of call outs. At Pancake rock I found out they were a group from Just Runs. Check out their web site for more options to coordinate for a run. All the fun if youaren't ready for a real club with meetings etc. Anyway, after Pancake Rock we head further along wisecarver trail to a rock garden area for lunch and to watch a few more daring take on some of the ledges etc. Jeff in a Cherokee rocked a ledge or two. On the way out we came across Merlin75s group decending from Pancake.
All had fun and the weather was great (well my daughter says it was a little windy at the top) Thanks all. We are still heading out to either Blair Valley or Hidden Valley on the 26th for a couple of days. I'll update my Holiday Runs post.

Im sorry I missed that run today, i would have loved to have joined. I chaven't heck thr board in a couple of days. Thanks for the good links. I'm thinking about heading up to San Bernadino forest to hit up all trails up there on Monday if anyone wants to meet up.

Merlin75 12-24-2011 10:14 AM

JYJeep, sorry you missed the meetup was actually 10am in alpine and our breakfast took longer than expected. Glad you had fun anyways though!

2chunkz 12-25-2011 12:33 PM

Anything going on tomorrow the 26th?

Merlin75 12-26-2011 10:34 AM

Some JKers went out to cougar buttes /truck haven area maybe bullfrog but I think the meet up time is 10 so departure would have to be like now lol.

that looked like a fun trail, do you have any 4 bangers that make that?

Jerry Bransford 01-16-2012 12:52 PM

Four-bangers don't have any problems with trails like that providing they're geared properly. Like if you're running 33" tires, being geared to 4.88 (assuming 5-speed) makes life good with the 2.5L engine. :)
