Pix of 33x12.5 without lift

I've read several threads that seem to indicate that you can run 33" on an UNlifted JKU Sahara if you are a flat-lander like me.
Anybody got pix of such a set-up?
Please include Tire brand and size as well as well size.

+1 I'd like to see pics of this setup also.

Unlifted JK with 33 x 12.50R15

Not a JKU, but my 2011 Wrangler Rubicon, unlifted, has Goodyear Duratracs, 33x12.50R15's mounted on MB72 rims (15x8), 3.75"BS. A 2.5 inch Teraflex lift is going on this week.

I just purchased the exact same wheels and tires for my wrangler. Did you have to have any wheel spacers?

Rims: ATX AX186 Slot Black
Size: 16 X 8
Backspacing: 4.5"

Tires: 33" BFG AT KO
Size: 285 X 75 X 16

You definitely don't need a lift for 33's if you're staying on paved roads. I've only had minor rubbing off road, never on road. As long as you get proper backspacing (4.5"+), you'll be good.

Actually, it's 4.5" or LESS...Pretty sure that's what you meant, sk, but just to make sure there's no confusion. :thumb:

Vrooom:

The only problem you MAY have with that setup is buying tires that are too wide and having them rub on full-lock turns. If that's the case, you can add a washer to your steering stops and fix that.

Also, you will most likely rub on your fenders if you go offroad with that setup. A simple TF leveling kit (to fix your Jeep's natural rake) or any type of lift (BB, spring, etc) will cure this.

What he said, LESS. I think the stock rims are around 7.5" backspacing. Yikes!

Same tires and wheels that Jayhawker has
DTs on MBs

No plans to lift any time soon, they are the same diameter as the old, stock JKS kit, just wider

JayHawker: I just bought a '12 sport. It's coming with the stock "16's. Would your setup work on a Sport? Also, seeing as I'm new at this, why is it that the popular thing is to go down to 15" wheels instead of up?

jml 01-31-2012 08:06 PM

Sorry folks. Didn't mean to be exclusive. Any help here would be appreciated.

There's a few reasons:

1. For off roading, more sidewall is better than more metal
2. Tires for smaller rims cost less
3. Weigh less

The setup will work for all models, Sport Sahara, or Rubicon.

Also keep in mind that not all 15's fit on the '12. MB72 is one that does fit. All 16's fit.

The stock rims are 6.25". Still ridiculously tight.

On my 2007 X (which I believe is the old version of the Sport), I went to the MB72s in 15" with 33x12.5 Duratracs and it works unlifted just fine. Running a small lift now but here's a shot prior to that...

well, if this ever turns into a real winter you are more than welcome to come on up and enjoy some with us!

I appreciate all the responses and the pics. It makes a lot more sense when you hear it from folks with first hand understanding. And I have to agree about the snow. Hope no one's offended if I copy your wheel/tire combos. Thanks again.

Not sure about others but I know that I made my choice after seeing Jayhawkers rig so no worries at all on copying. There's an expression about that being a form of flattery anyway so thanks in advance if you choose that combo,:D. Seriously, I think you'll love it but half the fun is researching and coming home to see them sitting there waiting for you.

Hey gang, Question on this. Looking into the AEV 5 hole wheels which have 5.25 backspacing. I was looking at pairing those with a TF 2.5 BB and 33x12.5x17's. Will that present any issues? Thanks!
