Drain plug is on bottom, Fill plug should be on the side. Referance manual if need to. You'll probably need one of those screw on caps with a hose on the end that goes on your bottle of fluid or a bottle pump you can get from the auto store to fill it. The fluid type will depend on what year your jeep is and what transmission is in it. My 01 uses mopar part #blah blah, which I substitute Penzoil synchromesh.
Make sure you are going for the transmission and not the transfercase.
To drain it place a pan under your skid plate and reach up and loosen the drain plug. The oil should drain onto the skid and down through the hole in the skid. Give it 20min to ensure it empties then reinstall the plug. Next undo the fill plug, put cap on bottle of Fluid required and fill till starts coming out from the side. Reinstall fill plug then if need be spray out skid plate.

Which manual do you have? If I remember right, the NV 3550 is a "no service" transmission, and does not need fluid changes, according to the owners manual (and I think the FSM). If it is the AX-15, then you should change the fluid every 30K (if memory serves) or so.

Thats weird because i changed mine and even at jeffy lube they checked on the computer and it says it should be changed every x miles. NV3550 is the tranny that comes w/ the I6 version.

Direct quote out of the owner's manual for a 2003 TJ Rubicon, page 210 under "Frequency of Fluid Change":

"Under normal operating conditions, the (transmission) fluid installed at the factory will give satisfactory lubrication for the life of the vehicle. Fluid changes are not necessary unless the lubricant has become contaminated with water. If contaminated with water, the fluid should be changed immediately."

So the NV3550 does not need the fluid changed on any regular basis, unless you get water in them.

The TJ's were made for a couple of years with the AX-15 manual transmission behind the 4.0L motors, and they DO require regular fluid changes. That is why we need to know what year the TJ is to tell if the fluid should be changed.
