Does your JK Burn Oil? Poll

I have several friends with JK's, none of which are using or burning any oil. Mine isn't either. I don't think the 3.8L is as bad as many make it out to be. Who knows if oil consumption articles in certain magazines are fabricated or not.

So, if you would, please let us know what year, model, the mileage on your JK. Also state whether or not you are adding oil between oil changes.

Mine: 2007 X 2 door, 25,225 miles. Burns no oil.

Thanks

OH9JK 12-26-2011 08:49 PM

No oil consumption. 2009 2 door X with 65,000-ish miles

kjeeper10 12-26-2011 08:50 PM

2007 JKR bought in July w/ 35,000 :wavey:

now have 40k

Running Amsoil 5w20

Check oil once a week. I have not noticed any significant oil loss..... Yet

Did I get lucky with this one?

2009 JK 2 door, 50k

I only burned a little oil once, bruned up about a quart+/-
but I was on the beach, three trucks where stuck, I was stuck, and one of them had a camper... I managed to get out, and kept pulling the others out, I overheated like 3 times... so, ya'll can decide on that one

thats the only time I ever had oil loss

But but.....you've got snow chains & like to do the deep snow, I scared :nonono:
Wait untill spring, Jarrod is doing an axle swap & I have had a couple of things going with mine also :)

07 4 door 27k burns about a quart between oil changes. I change oil about every 3k to 4k. I use 5-20 valvoline.

2008 JKU, ~66,000 miles, refill with about 2-3 quarts between oil changes, using 5W30 syn.

I have a 2007 Sahara 2-door, six-speed with 31,000 miles. I have the oil and filter changed every six months, usually less than 2,000 miles on the oil, and I have never had to add any oil between changes. Dealer, Bill Luke in Phoenix, uses Mopar 5W-20 oil and a Mopar filter per the book. Works for me, so far.:thumb:

I've got a 2008 JK with 21K on it and I'm not burning any oil between oil changes. Let's hope that doesn't change as the miles increase.

Eaglektd 12-27-2011 10:37 AM

2007 with 29k, I change the oil every 4-5k miles using 5w-20 blend and it burns no oil between services.

Thanks for all the input folks.

Remember, this has a POLL as well. Please do not forget to vote!!

Thanks

Seems like I'm the odd-ball. My 07 just hit 50k miles and I usually top off the oil once a week or 2 weeks. I just added a quart this morning. There are 0 leaks or spots on my garage floor so it is definitely burning in the motor.

kjeeper10 12-27-2011 11:11 AM

I tried looking for the engine manufactuer/location on my engine block.

No luck.

Wonder if what is said Is true?

JIMBOX 12-27-2011 11:18 AM

Done

2008 Rubicon burns about 1 quart between oil changes. Chrysler states that this is not abnormal for this engine and will not do anything regarding it.

I do have the LIFETIME POWERTRAIN warranty :)

Roadhawg 12-27-2011 03:39 PM

I think it depends where your engine was built. I think some that were built in Mexico had a problem and caused them to burn more oil than the others.

kenb1023 12-27-2011 03:43 PM

My 07 looses about qt. every 4k miles.

Eaglektd 12-27-2011 03:53 PM

From other threads about this I believe Roadhawg is right. Something to do with how piston rings were installed in the Mexico engine plant causes them to burn oil.

Camp 12-27-2011 05:11 PM

'07 JK 4dr with 62,500 and burns about i qt. in between my 3k mile changes. (Castrol H-M 5w20 syn)

eugenethejeep 12-27-2011 05:43 PM

2011 JK, about 10k miles, I just found I was missing about 1/2 a quart. Needless to say, will be keeping an eye on it from here on out
