The problem with American Car Buying

I dont want to make a blanket statement but my experience with Jeep/Chrysler's purchase order hasn't been the best.

I called, after my order on 11/28, 877-I-am-jeep and they said my jeep would be delivered to me by 12/20. They said call back as it gets closer to the 20th for a better update. Called on 12/18 and was told delivery will be on 12/30 and that it was shipped to the dealer already. Thought that was odd and went to the dealer to see if it was there on 12/23 and they said dont listen to those on that service cause they are high school kids or underpaid. Dealer told me my jeep is in Twin Oaks, PA and they should have it by 12/30. Called today just for giggles and they said it was sold to me on 12/16 and that I have it already. I told them I dont and they said call the dealer. Called the dealer and they told me they are picking it up tomorrow or Friday and I should have it this Saturday.

Guess my point of frustration is what's the point of the Customer Service # if its completely wrong? All that does is push buyers away due to the inconsistancy and disorganization.

End rant....your thoughts.....

PS, cant wait till Saturday :punk:

Seems to me the frist person you talked to was actaully right and it would arrive on 12/30.. yet you called 4 other times from the 18-28'th im guessing and got diffrent answers.. if thats the only issues your going to have with this new car then i would be happy!

I agree and hope its the only issue. My point is I called each time a little closer to the delivery to make sure it was still as scheduled and every time I called I got a completely differnt answer. Its a little frustrating but nothing I cant overlook. Just wanted to voice my frustration thats all.

I'm right there with you about hassels/annoyances. The 'hotline' might have a different 'delivered' flag than the dealership. Their 'delivered' flag might go off, or be considered done, when the vehicle is 'ready for pickup'. I've seen that in businesses before.

I completely agree, though, that the customer should receive the same information from both places.

I don't know it that will push 'Jeep' buyers away. One, you already bought it. Two, I'll go through a lot more crap (or mud) for a Jeep than I would for anything else. I'd have to practically be given car, and then I still wouldn't give up my Jeep. Infact, I think I need a second Jeep. So when my Jeep is in the shop getting upgraded (or when another plastic car driver hits me), I still have a Jeep to drive since rental car places don't rent wranglers around me.:thumb:

I never had an issue. I just walked into the dealer, told them what I wanted, and took immediate delivery.

It wasn't a Jeep but it was a Dodge Challenger and used the same shipping system. The Challenger forum had a link to a software update system where you could check on the car yourself. They had the codes listed so you knew what the various status updates meant. I used to check on my car about 5 times a day, lol. I even monitored on the rail car. The website would even tell you which town the train was in.

so did it actually show up on sat?

mjf232 01-05-2012 08:17 PM

Nope, dealer called me Saturday and told me it was still in transit and should be here by Wednesday, 1/4. He then called me Mon, 1/2 and said it arrived and I gladley took possession on Tue, 1/3.

Moral of the story, there's too many variables to be completely accurate on delivery.

You ordered a JK with the options and color you wanted and got it in 5 weeks???

Thats some kind of record.
Most people wait 3 months or more on the left coast.

mjf232 01-06-2012 09:18 PM

I wanted to change the title cause I agree its confusing. Yes I did get it in 5 weeks and am pretty impressed with that. I was just frustrated with the expericence of not getting a straight answer from Jeep on when it was to be delivered. I've ordered other cars in the past and my experience was a LOT better and more accurate. But I agree, the title is confusing. My bad

That's because your much patient than us over here in the Northeast and Jeep knows that we'd want blood if it took longer than 5-6 weeks, Eastside! :D

Also, my dealer knew a guy inside and made a call for me, hand to god.

We walked in the dealership on a Saturday
Gave them the list of what we wanted (color, options, etc.)
They found The Jeep at another dealer
Had it two days later on Monday afternoon
:D

Weird thing was they let us "borrow" our trade so we had something to drive until Monday. So our Blazer we owned for 10 years was showing dealer plates since it wasn't ours anymore...

Only hiccup was the source dealer put on Mopar running boards but neglected to mention it. Paperwork was already done they just tossed us the keys and said enjoy the boards. :)

:dance:Loving our '12 JKU!

I was expecting to order mine; however, the exact list of features I wanted was already installed on the dealer's lot models, and they had a color we both really liked so I grabbed one of those.
The only differences were that I didn't originally want the 730n system and I wanted the towing package.
Well, I fell in like with the 730n, it didn't affect my payments by enough to matter and I can install the towing stuff myself whenever I want to.

Drove her home a few hours later, zero hassles.
