Finding rims and tires???
 
I am looking at getting a new jeep wrangler Sahara or rubicon edition. I want to throw some nice rims on there but I don't want a big lift or a lift at all. How would I go about finding what size rims to get for the jeep? Im not going mudding so I'll stay with a street/offroad tire, no big mud bogger tire. Any suggestions...

Most JK people on the forum ditch the stock rims anyway, then buy 15 or 16" rims. The smaller size saves $$ on the tires, is lighter, and gives you a much greater selection of tires, as well.

You want rims with 4.5" backspacing or less. The smaller # will push your tires farther out from the body of the Jeep. You don't wanna go too far, or it's just like using spacers, your tires will eventually exceed the coverage of your fenders, and put added stress on your bearings.

Some of the 15" rims won't fit over the Wrangler's brake calipers. Just about all the 16's will. If in doubt, PM the DTD rep here on the forum (or call them on the phone)...they'll tell you what's what.

Some good all-around tires are BFG AT's, Goodyear DuraTracs (great for rain and snow, and they look mean as hell), some Hankooks, Falkens, etc. You can fit 33" tires under a new JK or JKU, provided you keep your rims' backspacing around 4.5" and under. If the tire is a wider one, you may want to stick with 4"bs or less so the tire won't rub your swaybar links on turns.

Some 33's will smack your fenders if you go offroad and fully stuff your suspension. To avoid this, and also to make your Jeep look better, you might think about buying a leveling kit to fix the natural rake your Jeep comes with. Don't recall exact #'s, but it raises your front end about 1.75" and your rear 1". Something like that. Afterward, however, your Jeep will be "level."

If you do the tire/wheel swap early in the life of your Jeep, you should be able to sell your stockers (especially Rubi & Sahara wheels) for pretty decent $$. I took mine back to the dealership with less than 400 miles on em, and they gave me a $500 check.

One good thing to do is start checking out threads (here and in the JK section) on rims and tires. Look at the pictures. Just be aware of tire envy...unless you can afford it, don't get fall in love with some dude's (or dudette's) 4" lift and 35" tires. Costs (and potential headaches) go up almost exponentially.
