Hey everyone! So I finally got a jeep. Thank goodness. I've got myself a 1 owner (before myself) 94 wrangler 4.0 5 speed. with only 76,000 miles!! there are a few questions I have tho. First the 5 speed grinds pretty bad going into the first 4 gears after its warned up. Also it grinds down shifting no matter if its heated up or not. Is this a common problem with these jeeps? is it even a problem at all? the next thing is my passenger door and rear door will not lock! This is a big problem for me. The passenger lock will not even push into the lock position. The key will not turn to lock it either. as far as the rear door. The key turns right and left like its going tip lock, but never dose... Sorry for the life story. Any thoughts or ideas will help! Thanks!!

hello welcome to the forum, I would look into the grinding gears mine is nice smooth and solid. the doors not locking properly is probably a clip or a rod that has come loose, there are a few threads on here that show tear downs of doors and the locking mechanisms are pretty basic, you could pull it apart and see whats up pretty easy.
I'm not sure if there is a tear down on the tail gate...

I'm sure someone will chime in but you might have a slave cylinder issue with the gears grinding....or maybe another issue with clutch engagement....I wouldn't think somebody would break all the syncro's....

how does the clutch pedal feel? It should be pretty stiff, closer to a truck or german car than to a cavalier or something like that.

Thanks for the reply's. Yea the gears grinding do concern me. I wondered why the would be grinding with so little miles. Thanks for the lock advise as well. I'll get into the doors this weakened if I actually have time off work.

personally... I would change the fluid, see what the fluid looks like, and what it shifts like after.

Sound like a plan. I was wanting to do a good tune up soon. Like oil change, transmission fluid change, top off all the grease, and new plugs wires and rotator cap. Any advice on wire size or brands?

You can also try pumping the clutch a couple times and see if its any better sounds like a master/slave cylinder or fluid leak to me. Though I wouldn't rule out syncros just based on mileage, teach a kid to drive a manual and an inexperienced driver can wreak havoc. Lol
