whats up everyone, new to the board and new to jeeps so i figured you guys would be the ones to ask... I have an 08 sahara and wanted to change out the rims on the to all black rims, would like to use the stock tires if possible but if not no big deal.... the stock tire and rim size is p255/70/18 stones...

would like to keep it at the stock height right now..

any 18x8 wheel with a 5on5 bolt pattern will do.

they have the pro comps in 18 x 9 5 on 5 do u think they will work?

Some people have powder coated their stock Sahara rims. If you could be without your wheels for a few days, that may be an option for you.

18x9 would be fine as well.

hey guys appreciate the info... i called up a couple places and they said the 18 x 8 is nearly impossible to find and they said they do not recommend putting the stock 255/70/18 on a rim that is 18 x 9 or 18 x 9.5 ........they recommend 18 x 7 or 8.....

what do u guys think they just trying to sell me some tires... exatly what is the second number refer to? thanks guys

Your tires are p-metric and measure out to 32" tall by 10" wide. I run an 11.5" wide tire on an 15x8" rim. But since you are running an 18" wheel they might be right unless you go to a taller tire.

Thanks for the help mani appreciate... i knew it was metric but am not sure how to convert i... they are recommending the 18 x 9 or 18 x 9.5 and a 285/60/18

so would that be similiar to the stock size... if it ain to much trouble could u post the wbsite that does the coversion? thanks again...

what you run does it feel any different in handling etc?

AzTJ 11-08-2007 07:38 PM

You can't compare a TJ to a JK. :D

joker 11-09-2007 06:23 PM

so they are recommending that since the stock tires do not fit since the stock rim is 8.5 and the pro comps that i am planning on getting are 18 x 9 they recommend 285/60/18

will this be to wide of a tire? will it rub, will the handling be changed for the better? stock 255/70/18 vs the 285/60/18

appreciate the help, i just want to be sure that it will still handle good...or better

All of the 08's have TPMS. (Tire Pressure Monitoring System) Verify and make 100% sure that your stock sensors will go into the new wheel. They require a different size hole and some wheels dont offer this just yet. You will have to use the stock sensors from your stock wheels OR purchase new ones from the dealer and have them calibrated to the vehicle. Just something to keep an eye on.

i didn't know that the sensors were on the wheel! where are they exact? will i be able to put them on new rims, if i leave them out i guess i will always have the system giving me a problem right? Wait does that mean there is a sensor in the spare tire to?

PIMPALA-SS 11-12-2007 09:18 AM

they are inside of the wheel, and are a part of the valve stem itself.

and anyone who tells you that your stock tires wont fit on a 9" wheel, when they are already on a 8.5" wide wheel, is just trying to sell you a set of tires.

they will fit just fine. 1/4" on either side wont make much difference at all.

joker 11-16-2007 04:05 PM

thanks pimp.... is it possible to take out the tmps and put them into another wheel? if it is part of the stem i dont see why not but just curious do i just put the wheels on and reset the tire monitor system????
