Soft top window visibility
I just ordered a 2012 soft top with half doors and am concerned about the visibility of the plastic windows. I have a 15 y/o daughter that will be getting her license soon and am concerned about her seeing oncoming traffic from the side. Do the soft top windows have a clear view? I still have time to change to full doors, but really want the half doors for the summer months..... although the safety of my daughter would out weigh the coolness of the half doors. Thanks for any info.

No problem at all with visibility, as long as they're reasonably clean and cared for. I can see as well out of mine as I can out of the wife's car and my work van. I wouldn't want the full doors now.

I have an '07 JKU with 1/2 doors as well. Even at 4 years old, I still have good visibility out my plastic windows. I let my daughter drive mine. Just some precautions you/she needs to take to keep them looking good. :thumb:
Note: Some of my thoughts are just common sense and I'm not trying to insult your intelligence.
  • Keep them clean (just like glass, you can't see out a dirty window)
  • Clean with a damp cloth (don't use chemicals, harsh soap or paper towels)
  • Regularly apply a good cleaner/protectant (I use one made by Bestop). It is used just like car wax.
  • Be more careful off-roading through brush to avoid scratches
  • When installed and un-zipped, don't rest your arm on the windows as they fold in.
  • Even though you can, it's not a good idea to roll up the rear window as it can easily get scuffed, just take it all the way out.

Thanks, I'm sticking with the half doors!

I don't care for the tinted version with my 07. Always had clear in the past.
I don't know if you have a choice.

Also I've always just tossed my windows in the back. Did not really take good care of them :hide:
Ended up replacing every few years :)

My sister ALWYAS complained about not seeing out of the Jeep, and getting honked at a lot when merging on the highway, etc. (i got a whole 5 min lecture on it). The jeep is mine now (i'm 16, she's 27). I have tinted windows, spend a nice amount of time on the highway. Haven't had ANY (knock on wood!) problems! Just make sure your mirrors are set right and you'll be fine.

As long as they are in good shape and not scratched to death, visibility is fine. There are ways of polishing the plastic windows to remove small scratches and haze and improve visibility. Because they are not perfectly smooth and flat, you may get an occasional reflection in areas of the window at times.
