Nice. :punk: Favorite wheeling has always been in the snow.

What is the story on the burban?

BeaverJeeper 01-02-2012 06:38 PM

we found it stuck there with no one inside. there was a note saying he left it there and would return to get it out. on our way back down the mountain, we didn't see it again. unless we took a different way down and i didn't notice. lol

lensam 01-02-2012 06:49 PM

It looks like they took the plate and abandoned it

Ya, it must have been there over night cuz we were up there fairly early and the tracks from them walking out weren't fresh. AND....they left the vehicle unlocked. Not smart.

We took the same way down. It was gone when we got there. I saw where it used to be as we were coming back down so he must have gotten it out. I thought about stopping and pulling it out on the way down if it was still there and leaving a note that their burban had been recovered by a Jeep Wrangler. :D

It had a temp tag in the back window.

You guys ran ahead of us and left us behind for a while and weren't around for pictures.

Ted_D 01-02-2012 09:32 PM

LOL! you can see where my belly skid drug in all of those pics

darkproximity 01-02-2012 11:10 PM

You made it easier for the rest of em by packing down the snow underneath

Ted_D 01-02-2012 11:40 PM

yep and didn't get stuck until we decided to turn around.

darkproximity 01-02-2012 11:47 PM

Yeah..that convoy was probably designed the best based on the vehicles we had going.. you being 2nd was a good idea and having the winches placed in the manner we did was perfect..

also new rule as we found it to be very effective in snow.. no pulling people behind you.. winch the person in front of you back and let them try again with more speed.. saves untold time.. you wont get enough traction in deep snow to pull someone..

Traction has nothing to do with. You shouldn't have been trying to use traction to pull. There would have been no problems if you would have left it in neutral. Plain and simple.

darkproximity 01-03-2012 12:50 AM

Im saying no pulling them straight up without the use of a winch.. sure if you cant get them from behind then the person in front can winch.. I think you're getting the two recoveries mixed up

darkproximity 01-03-2012 12:53 AM

The first recovery we used the winch and a million straps, the second was just a pull with a strap.. winch wasn't used until I dug too deep.. once I stopped the Jeep settled and wouldn't get out.. before I stopped pulling I was still able to reverse enough to get a run at it.. but disconnecting my tow strap let it settle further to where I couldn't which is when you pulled him backwards with the winch and I pulled myself out

Coyote_94YJ 01-03-2012 01:06 AM

I must be getting things confused a bit but either way WINCHING backward or WINCHING forwards shouldn't make any difference. That is what I'm trying to get across.

darkproximity 01-03-2012 01:12 AM

It did make a difference when we did it for Levi.. winching forward requires more steps because aside from hooking the winch up to a pain in the ass tree to get to and hooking up to the stuck vehicle... we just hooked up to Levi and pulled back.. took a minute compared to a half hour the other way..

Yes for a YJ or a TJ but I wasn't going to be able to pull the jku out on my own without hooking up to an anchor of some sort. So you had to hook to a tree and I had to hook to another jeep.

darkproximity 01-03-2012 01:17 AM

Lol well in hindsight the jeep was a lot easier to anchor to than us getting the damn strap around the tree.. especially for mr. "Haven't you ever roped cattle before" misquite farmer lol

 I forgot about that comment.

It does depend on the tree. The first one they hooked you to only took a minute. That other one though.... that took a while especially if you happen to farm mesquite.

darkproximity 01-03-2012 01:24 AM

Lol Levi was doing a better job trying to get it around haha.. at least the strap was coming back around the tree.. when John threw it it wasn't trying to come back towards us.. or he missed the tree all together hahaha

Coyote_94YJ 01-03-2012 01:26 AM

I thought at one point that he was going to hit Levi with that d-ring. lol.

darkproximity 01-03-2012 01:28 AM

Yeah then we would have had to worry about Levi losing an eye lol

darkproximity 01-03-2012 01:29 AM

Also not gonna use the winch again until I get it replaced.. honestly think that it was defective when I got it cuz it sounded baaaad and only got worse with the clicking noise

Coyote_94YJ 01-03-2012 01:32 AM

Lose and eye? More like knock his brains out.

Ya, I would get that thing replaced. It doesn't sound right at all.
