Air Bag Question

How do I disconnect the explosive device for the air bag on my 1998 Wrangler? I have taken the air bag apart and see the yellow connector but do not know how the connection comes apart. Any advice?

Why?

On my 97 TJ, I removed the passanger airbag, from behind the dash, and also removed the airbag module, from under the dash, on the floor, tucked in behind the shifter console. The driver airbag, I just unplugged. Make sure to not damage the clock spring, or the horn won't work.

Why did I type "Why"?

Because you should leave the airbags connected. They're a great safety feature.

Air Bag Disconnect

Control module is corroded, horn does not work and was trying to fix it. I am not sure it would have functioned properly any way as the front bumper is after market and welded in place. I found out that you should ALWAYS disconnect the power supply when working with the air bags. I have removed the corroded module.
Will an after market steering wheel for a 95 model fit a 98 model? I am thinking it will be much easier and cheaper to install an after market wheel and skip the air bag. Thoughts ?
Previous owner took the jeep swimming in the deep end and this is just one more issue I've had to chase. :banghead:
Thanks for your help!

97 to 06 are TJs. I'm guessing only 97 and 98 are interchangable, as there are differences in many functions when you go to 99. Just a guess.
The bumper shouldn't matter, as near as I can tell, the airbags is triggered by a shock sensor inside the main module, not by bumper sensors.

Must have been a deep swim.
