Found another Prospective TJ. You're opinions?

Hey guys. I found another prospective TJ that I've pretty much fell in love with (my wife has too).

It's a 2004 X model. 6cyl, 5spd, D35 rearend, and pretty much bone stock and CLEAN!!! I mean CLEAN!! 2 or 3 small imperfections in the paint that I could see. Near perfect interior, excellent condition soft top with full doors & crank windows, got the 15" steel wheels with almost new tires (10k mi on tires). And the only thing I could tell that was replaced was a front swaybar link that was aftermarket (The lady told me it had been replaced).

The ONLY question I have on it is at the bottom 1/3 of the rear diff cover you could see where it had some fluid on/around the cover gasket and cover. Is there anything I should be concerned with or should it just be a gasket change and fluid added?

It's only got 68,xxx miles on it and she's asking $11,900. I kinda like the super stock, super clean that way I know exactly where I'm starting and know exactly what's done to it. The lady also said it's never been off the pavement.

Anyway. Opinions on price and the rear differential? I know there are some d35 haters but I only plan on going like 2.5" susp with 31's or 4.25 combo lift with 33's and will only do light duty offroad "exploring" (I don't care for going through mud)

Thanks!

I know some cheap ass will say to offer her 7500...but that price seems great! I think being an X model keeps the price down but that thing would sell for 14k hear all day. Seems like a nice ride for a purist.

Great example as to how a clean, stock jeep is appealing.

By your description that jeep would fetch at least 14000-14500 in the midwest. Sounds like a keeper.

Sounds good. Just check the frame for more than just surface rust. If that checks out I would pull the trigger. :thumb:

Yea, for the year and the milage, and being so clean. It sounds like a good deal. Go for it!

Fluid on rear diff might be pinion seal. Fairly easy to replace. If it's just 'wet' and not dripping no rush to fix.
Google Jeep Pinion Seal Replacement and you'll find multiple websites that cover the details on replacement.

I live in the Twin Cities and agree!

She said a salesman at a dealer told her he suggested listing it for 15,9.

The diff just looks damp/wet, no drip

Green with Envy

That was nice price for a low mile 2004 Jeep. Congrats on the purchase and keep us updated on the mods. I've been a Jeep owner for all of a few months~ and am loving the tinkering with my son (actualy bought it for him). Great way to spend time and unfortunately money, the Jeep name seems to add a premium to the price.

Look at the frame real good in front of the rear tires. Stick your finger in all the wholes and make sure the frame isn't rusting from the inside out. It is a known spot for them to do that

I-Want-A-Jeep 01-04-2012 09:31 PM

Well, I also talked them down a bit from their 11,900 asking price. Ended up at 10,500.

Pretty good IMO, especially with how clean it is!

Man thats a good deal! I recently got a 2004 x with auto that is same condition as the one you described with only 39k miles for just over 15k from the dealership. Would of loved to pay only 10.5k for it instead of 15.
