Cleghorn Question

So a few buddies and I are planning on doing this run this weekend. Most of us are rather new, and have stock JKs some with moderate lifts and 33s. In my trail book this is rated as easy. I know there are there are a lot of side trails. Are there any that can be recommended or that we should avoid? I know there are no street signs, but I am wondering if any one has any gps maps of a good route? How difficult can some of these side trails get? Ive only wheeled a few time but have done Miller Jeep trail. Can anyone compare the two? Any input would be great. Thanks a lot.

theres quite a few that a stock cant get thru. we just ran that last weekend and the one guy that was stock didnt take any of the off chutes. im runing a LJ rubicon 33s and i did every one. so id would say if u goin to try some or all bring alot of straps for the stock guys or send the most capable rig out and radio back wether or not he thinks the stockers can make it. i dont know what else to recomend. its a fun trail tho. have fun be safe.

The entire thing can be done stock if the driver is cautious and chooses a good line. My brother in law did every off shoot in a bone stock 85 CJ with 29" "All Weather" tires. He got a couple of scratches, but nothing was out of the question. I say go for it, have fun and take a lot of pictures.

If you think a part of the trail is beyond what you want to attempt at this point, walk up it and look at it closely. If you still feel not sure, then simply take the main road and meet others that want to do it at the next junction.

So all the off shoots lead back to the main trail?

turdhurdler 01-05-2012 08:38 AM

Yes, all the off shoots will lead back tothe main trail. No risk of getting lost.

Edit. there is one off shoot that goes to a dead end and you have to make a u-turn, that is at the end of the trail. There is a forest service sign that has lost its image and gotten rusty. Someone wrote "Dead end" on the sign to let others know.

There is one section (that we didnt take last time you and I were there, but we talked about it) It started directly across the road from the end of a spur just before the 1/2 way point and it looked like adopt a trail or forestry had tried to close off. (you had to climb over a ledge and rocks just to get to it) It was a wash area with lots of rocks etc. We took that one this time and it was the toughest part of the trial. I think we only had 4 of the 9 jeeps attempt it. It was cool, but def not for stock. Impossible trail to get lost on...

I have done this trail twice and am completely stock except for new 33" tires. One thing that's nice about it is the fact that EVERYTHING intersects with the main fire road, so you can bypass anything.

Also, it pretty consistently gets harder as you go. So once things start to get hard, you can just take the fire road the rest of the way.

When and what time are you planning ur run? .... I might be able to join .///

ThisJk38 01-05-2012 06:06 PM

Thanks for the input. How long does it usually take hitting most of the off shoots.

suicideking 01-07-2012 01:31 PM

I'd say a good 4 hours if you take your time and BS with friends along the way.

What is the general location for this? I was hoping to do some light wheeling on Sunday morning just to get outside in this spring like weather!

turdhurdler 01-07-2012 07:19 PM

It is located off the 15 freeway at the Cleghorn exit, right before the Truck scales if going north bound. The next exit is for Silverwood Lake if pass it up on mistake.
