ok guys - here is a picture of my rear driveshaft. does this angle look odd t o anyone else or just me? i am getting a wierd vibration and replaced the rear u-joints last night. for some reason my rear cap bolts were finger tight! that was kinda scary. seemed to help a little but notice the angle of my driveshaft and it just dont look right to me. this is my first jeep and i would class myself as a pretty handy guy and can fix most anything with direction. my jeep is a 93 with 4.0 5speed manual. it has a 2" body lift and 2.5" rough country lift kit with new springs and shocks. i dropped hte transfer case 1.5" after reading other peoples lift kit trials. after looking at this driveshaft i am now thinking my tranny drop was un-necessary? thoughts, comments and a little guidence.....

Id take it out and see how it drives, your at a negative angle now

oh and while on here does that rear pinion angle look off? i think its at between 4-5 degrees

negative angle? does that mean that maybe i should shim the rear end to change the angle of the yoke?

take it ou - stupid question but if i take out the rear drive shaft wont it leak fluid out the t-case while driving?

I think he means take it out...for a drive.

I am thinking the T-case drop needs to come out and it does look like your pinion angle is a bit high. Are there degree shims on your springs? maybe the springs are on backwards.

Yeah, I don't think you needed to drop your tcase either.

thanks for the tips. will try however taking my t-case drop out not gonna be easy. i welded a piece of square stock to the frame and bolted my skid plate to it as the original bolts broke off and made a mess.

as for my springs they are in correctly as i looked at my buddies and his wedges are facing the right way. the wedges in my springs are bigger then his and i think that is what is causing the severe angle of the pinion.

i think i have 2 options here - A) take out t-case drop and maybe that will take care of the angle - however when i did the lift i had a vibration without the drop.

B) is there anyway to change the angle of the rearend? do they sell wedges / shims that can be replaced under the springs? seems a smaller ship / wedge would cure as well?

Yeah they do sell shims for that purpose

Ya know Big, I think he has pinion angle shim in there already(look at pic 2). Maybe he needs to take them out?:thumb:

I read all that was said and agree but if the jeep was abused the pumpkin could have turned on the tubes. So look at that too.

Good eye, definately an option if the case drop removal doesnt work

So I'm not starting a new thread with the same question ... but given by the pictures below & the write-up on my Jeep profile... I want to do a SYE kit as soon as I can afford it, but for now, I'd like to know what I'm working with.

Do I run a good risk of the yoke coming out of my transfer case with my Jeep set up like this?

Umm depends on how you run it.....looks to be about halfway out and judging from the rust, has been running that way for some time. You really dont need a SYE, just a tube put in your shaft about 1 inch longer than what yours is now and it will last a long time.

I appreciate it, I haven't done much wheeling since that driveshaft has been installed. The shaft actually only has about 300 miles on it & I haven't taken it for some serious wheeling since it was installed. I am just worried about it coming out under a good flex, suspension wise.

So, if I have a good shop add an inch to the current shaft, I should be good to go unless I add more lift???

ok so i did more research and went an picked up angle finder at home depot for 8$ pulled it into the garage went under and found the rear pinion angle to be around 14-15* pointing up. pulled the 6* shim that was in there and wow holy smokes. i am now within 2* from the pinion to the shaft coming out of the transfer case. Jeep rides like new!! thanks for all you tips and thats what makes this forum work!!:dance:

pics above was with the 6* and here is a shot without it. might not be perfect but feels like it when going down the road now.

looking at the photo it looks like the the rear axle was shimmed for a greater angle with the kit. After dropping the TC it made that weird angle by the differential. I bought a 4 inch lift from RC and dropped the TC 2 inches. I still got wobbles. I am now putting in the SYE/CV becasue I dont want to filly-f$%k around anymore....
