Manual (6-Speed) JK Owners :: Please Vote :: Problems / No-Problems
I'm interested in seeing how common manual JK's have problems that require them to be taken in for non-maintenance repair. For example: jumping out of gear or clutch issues not including standard wear.

I have seen quite a few post on people having problems with the 6-speed. It just makes me what kind of percent of people are running into defective transmission issues.

Please leave the Jeep year with any experiences you would like to share. Thanks!

In my first 1300 miles I had to have the thrust bearing and throughout bearing replaced.. And on occasion she pops out of second and fourth gear.

2011 JK 2 door with approximately 8,000 miles on her. No major problems so far.

Just the typical getting my head wet from water dripping on me when opening the door(s) after it has rained, the occasional wind noise somewhere along the windshield while driving between 35 and 45 mph, and a couple of little rattles in the door glass and dash that I have noticed when it is REALLY cold, but these go away after she warms up (about 20 mins later).

Happy Jeepin'! :wavey:

verdugan 01-12-2012 06:14 PM

'12 with 1200 miles. Sometimes pops out of 4th gear/can't get it into 4th gear. Happens very infrequently. Haven't taken it in yet.

mjf232 01-12-2012 06:22 PM

'88 5sp had from 44k miles and sold at 155k miles, no issues.
'12 JKU 6spd, had a week now, no issues (knock on wood)

Arena Motor Dude 01-12-2012 06:30 PM

2012 6-speed no probs yet. My 2008 destroyed the throughout bearing but that is because manual transmissions don't seem to like to go off-road without proper gearing. (35" Mud Grapplers, 3.5" lift and 2.92 gears... yeah no fun)

DarthJeep 01-12-2012 06:34 PM

'11 no issues

Thanks everyone for voting. :punk:

GatorFan4 I would like to give a toast, because I'm honored the most to host your first post.

I guess with 63 people it isn't large enough to be statistically dead on, but 20% fail rate sort of sucks. I find my logic side wanting to talk me off the cliff, and my emotional side saying, "Screw it take the leap of faith." I guess having a loaner vehicle for repairs would be a good thing to have in the paper work.
QUOTE "The NSG 370 six-speed manual returns for 2012 and remains mostly unchanged as the standard transmission. The new NSG 370 features a taller .797 Sixth gear Overdrive compared to the .84 Sixth gear of the earlier models."

So would this first time new pairing of the engine/transmission be a new cause for concern on the 2012's?
