Did 2006 Rubi come with Antilock Brakes???

Looking at the 2006 sales brochure it appears that antilock brakes were an option for the Sport model and not available on any other model Wrangler.

Is this correct??? If so no 2006 Rubicon should have antilock brakes. I notice some ads says antilock brakes which prompted the question.

should have antilock brakes as factory equipment on the rubicon

Vinman 01-12-2012 10:19 AM

I'm about 99% sure no TJ Rubicon had ABS, in fact, I'm about 99% sure no TJ Dana 44 had ABS, just the D35's.

I don't have anti lock brakes on my 06 rubi. I prefer it that way too!

jgorm 01-12-2012 10:20 AM

my 06 rubicon LJ does not have antilock, but I wish it did!

06GoldenEagle 01-12-2012 12:40 PM

I see lots of ads for TJ's with V-6 engines. Putting it in writing doesn't make it so.

What makes you think so? Just a feeling?

Whether they "should have" or not is one thing. Fact is, they did not.

my o5 rubi does not have abs. but i know the easy way tell (mayb urs did as a package idk) theres a tray across from your battery if the tray is empty. no abs. if there something there and it looks like some break lines coming out. then u have abs.

XJ Knight 01-12-2012 04:15 PM

anti lock brakes were only a option on the TJ's with the D35. Very uncommon to see even them around allthough there out there..

Anti Lock Brakes are not very good for offroad use thus being why they are not common on the TJ. Even on the road I really have no desire for them

If it's a Rubicon, it doesn't have ABS. If it has ABS, it's not a Rubicon.

How's that for easy? You don't even have to touch a hood latch.

Ive had vehicles with both abs and without...personally im not a fan of abs. Abs does a great job at allowing you to steer while skidding, but it increases your stopping distance significantly and theres no turning it off. I think it can actually be more dangerous for some as it builds a false sense of confidence about braking in bad weather.

With regular brakes you can pump them to act as abs brakes and be able to steer or lock the wheels up to stop shorter especially when its snowing cause the snow piles up in front of the tires and brings you to a stop quicker. Downshifting and double clutching is the best way to slow down in the snow though ;)

i stopped in a straight line sliding last night on a wet road, i was happy knowing i dont have it now considering abs sucks on wet roads cause it always wants to engage and f*ck with u.

i didnt think about wheeling and abs, does make sense you wouldnt want abs for that use.

ABS = mall crawler....... JK's have them.

ABS accels on wet roads - loss of control on wet roads is the entire reason it was developed. you must not know how to drive a vehicle with ABS, or why it works.

ABS is great if you understand it, and I'd love to have it on my Jeep....in addition to an on/off switch on the dash.

06GoldenEagle 01-13-2012 10:48 AM

yea well if you are panic stopping and not preparing to pump brakes, its hazardous. if the only thing you ever owned in life was lock up brakes it can be unnerving, and best is when one wheel sensor malfunctions and it engages at random on dry roads. i have to say lock up never does that.

One of my jeeps has a V-6, of course it's my 1966 CJ-5 I bought in 1967. I'm always reading jeep for sale listings and am amazed at how often you see a TJ that says V-6, lot's of times by a Dealer. Been wanting to call them and ask how the V-6 performs against the stright six.

Just get creative and find out the hard way. That's how I did it. :whistling:

Question

For us Rubi owners without ABS, does anyone use the space from the empty tray creatively?

You can always get that little display that tells you how many degrees your car is leaning front and back. I can't remember the name, but Il post a link to it. It gives the inside kind of a badass and futuristic look.

according to all the factory info I have, ABS was never offered on any TJ Wrangler with the Dana 44 axle, and of course all TJ Rubicons have the D44 front and rear.

maybe you are thinking of rear disc brakes, which could be had with a Dana 44 axle for model years 2003-2006.

I'm pretty sure the only TJs that came from the factory with rear disc brakes were the rubicons. I had a 05 sport with a d44 rear and drums.

Some people have put air compressors on the AS tray. I probably will eventually.
