Nice trip! My longest trip took my family and I through most of Arizona and the deserts of SOCAL to visit a slew of old ghost towns. Great trip.

The two below pics show one of the ghost town buildings we visited. My now 21 year old son was spooked by his first visit into an old abandoned ghost town and you can see he was wary of walking inside of one of the buildings... he kept asking about if there were any ghosts inside. :D

^^ MAN! That would be an awesome trip!

The end of this month I'll be headed to OKC. 1600 mile round trip.

Coastiejeep 01-12-2012 01:58 PM

Gulfport MS to Yorktown VA and back about 2k miles back in late Oct.

Nano 01-12-2012 02:33 PM

Holy crap! 1700 miles without leaving the state? hehe

I do ATL to MD 2-4 times a year which usually tops 1500 miles round trip.

I did ATL to Daytona for last Year's Jeep Beach. I think that was close to my MD trips in distance.

When my brother was in the Air Force I ended up driving all over the place. Most of the time it was in his mostly stock TJ. When he got relocated he'd have a few weeks off in between and would want to bring his Jeep home. So we ended up driving:
New Mexico to West Virginia- 27 hours 1600 miles one way,
West Virginia to San Antonio TX - 23 hours 1450 miles one way
(Not including the 3 hours lost around Dallas, thanks MapQuest)
Made the return trip from San Antonio after he finished there. Thank god his TJ has AC...
Then multiple trips in his and my TJ to and from
Omaha Nebraska to WV anywhere from 13-15 hours 925 miles one way.
Made the NE to WV trip in record time of 11 hours once in my friends Cherokee. Wish I had video of his face when I woke him up in his driveway.

Salt Lake City to Detroit to Seattle to Salt Lake City. I want to say the whole trip was just over 5000 miles.

Portland - Moab, 1,000 miles each way. But that Africa trip would be the best ever. My wife is from there and we've been a few times, but not by Jeep.

Nilkc 01-12-2012 05:26 PM

750 Miles straight through from Indiana to Minnesota cruising at 52 mph the whole way.

You and me too Matt. You know Allen and we both know he is big enough now to handle the both of us combined. :D

P.S. It looks like the Navy will be taking him afterall providing he passes all the normal physical test again and they get his surgeon's letter that he's ok now. They assured him that he'll be good to try out for the SEALs again next year since he will be 100% then after last year's motorcycle accident.

Frisco Rubi 01-12-2012 08:38 PM

Took the Rubi when still stock stock, Feb 05 from central Colorado to Bisbee, AZ area. To Phoenix, Lake Havasu, Old Women mountains in S Cal, all over the Mojave National Preserve, Las Vegas, Goodsprings mining area Beatty/Pahruump area in NV. all the Death Valley area, up to Goldfield/ Tonopah/Silver Peak mining areas and jeep roads. On to Mina, NV area for more jeeping, mining area roads. On to Gabbs NV area more jeep roads, to Austin/Eureka, NV areas for more jeeping and mining areas to explore and then to Ely, NV for more of the same. And then back to Colorado. 2 &1/2 weeks and 3,200 miles. Saw a lot of the country you would never see in a Pickup or car. Wife said in some of the areas we went, if something happened, no one would ever find us, my comment to her, in this day and age you can't get away from people any where you go. Note, this was February and we still saw more people in the backcountry than I thought we would, although in a few areas we saw no one, especially in the remote areas of NV.

Liked that trip so well, we and my son and his family went back out to Northern NV and spent 5 days checking out the mining areas and jeep roads a year later. We drove the Rubi again and they trailered their 72 CJ-5, Put another 2,000 on that trip on the Rubi. Don't know if we'll ever get the women to do that again. It wasn't their favorite thing to do, beating around on the back roads every day, but the grand kids loved it. My son and I and the Grand kids, we could do that a lot, if work and school didn't get in the way. Got a lot of the west I still want to jeep, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Oregon, and Washington come to mind and then BC and the Yukon. Don't think I'll live long enough and we need to hit the lottery big time, well a guy can dream, can't he.
Enjoy that wrangler guy's, Time is short!
Ron
