95 YJ 2.5L New Fuel Pump Runs But Does Not Pump?

Hi fella's, I am new to this forum, but not new to Jeep... My grandpa took a beach head on D-Day in a jeep an I have been around them many years... If you want to see my collection, you can fine that here............ BBP - Who We Are :thumb:

Here is a brief back ground story of how I got to this point in my fuel pump problem... Back 2 years ago I replaced the entire sending unit/fuel pump assembly in my 1995 YJ 20-gal tank (2.5L).. The sending unit came from 4wd.com an was a Omix-ada brand.. It ran fine up till Christmas a couple weeks back... I had a small fuel leak, so I dropped the tank.. The sending unit was still shinny new (Jeep does not see salt) but one of the hose claps was leaking... So I tightened the clamp an while I was there added another clap to each hose so that there are two claps at each connection... This worked great, so back together it went.. Then I noticed my fuel gauge was stuck on full.. Dropped the tank again yesterday found that one of my connection pins had pushed back an was not connected... I broke the pin... Dang... So I soldered the wires an used weather tight shrink tube... Everything looked good, fuel gauge worked, pump cycled when the key was turned on, so I installed the tank... Went to start the jeep to pull it out of my shop... Nothing... So I check the entire fuel line system... No fuel an the tank had the better part of 10-gal. in it... So I dropped the tank again.. No fuel coming out at the top of the sending unit hose connection... It must be a bad fuel pump, so off to AutoZone for new pump... Put the new pump in and it cycles an runs just like the last pump did but does not move fuel... I have the OEM pump from 2-yrs ago, so I put it in.. The same thing is happening.. It runs but does not move fuel.. I have the sending unit setting in a coffee can in fuel an none of the pumps pump... What is the matter? I am going to take the new pump back an switch it out today... But what is the chances that all three OEM, Old an new are bad? I even tried putting fuel down the sending unit neck to try to pimp the pumps, but nothing... Shouldn't it be pumping out the top of the sending unit for the first 2-sec. the pump runs when the key is turned on? HELP Please Help.

Just to inform everyone... The wire connection on my 95 YJ at the fuel pump connector in the rear driver side wheel well goes as follows.

Wire harness green with black strip connects to fuel pump orange wire.
Wire harness black with orange strip connects to fuel pump black wire.
Wire harness blue connects to fuel pump brown wire.

The only thing I can think of is the pumps are running backwards

Well.... My connection went bad so I cut the wire an soldered a new 3-wire weather proof connector MSD Part # 8172.. I bought it from Summit Racing yesterday... The wires to the pump were backwards... My fault...http://www.jeepforum.com/ubb/hahaha.gif

But this wire connection color code is correct... "The same that I posted up top...

"Wire harness green with black strip connects to fuel pump orange wire.
Wire harness black with orange strip connects to fuel pump black wire.
Wire harness blue connects to fuel pump brown wire. "

1995 Jeep Wrangler - Fuel Issue

I recently purchased a 1995 Jeep Wrangler for my grandson, the problem is that we installed a new fuel pump and you can hear it come on for a few seconds when you turn the key most of the time. It is not sending fuel to the engine. Currently have the fuel filter off so if it was pumping it would go out of the line into a bucket. Any ideas?

Please recheck your connections. I recently installed a new fuel pump in my 1989 and while testing the new pump in the tank before reinstalling in jeep I had polarity reversed and pump runs but is running in reverse and will not pump fuel. I changed polarity and it immediately began pumping fuel.

Also make sure you didn't reverse the fuel line connections. It would be easy to do.
