I like the color of the first set (my TJ is yellow)
I picked up a pair of Rockford Fosgate's for my sound bar about a month ago. 6.5" 3 way for $60 at car toys. They sound much better than the blown stock ones but not as good as in the "sound room". Gonna replace the ones in the dash soon. Then maybe a sub?

Haha. That is true. When I get new ones in the dash, should I get waterproof ones? And aren't there only two in the dash?

WaterDR 01-18-2012 08:50 PM

I have kickers in the sound bar and dash and they sound great. I also upgraded the head which makes a big difference and added a powered sub.

yup 4X6 on each side of the dash. But when do the dash ill be getting the JBL 5.25" 2 way Amazon.com: JBL GTO528 5.25-Inch 2-Way Loudspeaker: Car Electronics. And dont know about water proof... i mean the dash seem pretty out of the way and tucked up inside and the speaker dash vents are small so i dont think you would really need to worry unless you plan on jammin to AC/DC under 4 feet of water lol :punk:

To do the 5.25s don't you have to mod something? I think I've heard that somewhere

for the sound bar Amazon.com: JBL GTO638 6.5-Inch 3-Way Speakers (Pair): Car Electronics $65 but the stock sound bar size is 5.25 so you'll have to re-drill the mount holes for 6.5. I dont have dash speaker.

Was it hard or time consuming when you re-drilled the holes??

WaterDR 01-18-2012 10:19 PM

It is the soundbar that would have come stock on a sahara.

not really just have to line it up and drill. you'll end up drilling through the cloth and padding though

I was responding to an ealier post where someone asked what kind I had.

TJNewbie 01-20-2012 04:39 AM

For quality I'd go with the JBL's. In the sound bar, I have the Sony 6.5" Explodes they're 200 watt peak, 3ways, shallow mount, water resistant. they sound awesome! good deep bass, mids and highs are very good. but Sony doesn't make that model anymore.

With some 6.5" speakers you won't need to re-drill the sound bar. I didn't have to with my 6.5 Sony Explodes.

I got the Polk audio db21 5.25 mounted in the dash with the adapters mentioned above. For the soundbar I used the Polk db651 6.5's with poly fil stuffed in the holes. I replaced the stock head unit with an alpine hu and it sounds fine. The tweeters outshine the bass so you may want a sub if you are into a lot of bass. It's sounds great, even topless.

Garlandxj 01-20-2012 08:13 AM

Don't spend the money on the adapters. Do what I did. Search for the template on-line. Go to the dollar store and buy 2 $1.00 cutting boards. Trace the template on to the cutting board and cut it out. I used a jig saw. (If you don't have one, then for the price of the adapters go buy one. ) $2:00 adapter plates !!!

The speaker in the pic is a Memphis Audio 5 1/4. I have since switched it out for Polk 5 /14

You end up drilling through the bottom of the cloth? Right? And how do the screws stay in there if they are not in the right spot?

Allstar Realtor 01-20-2012 08:46 AM

Yesterday I took out the stock 5.25 sound bar speakers and replaced them with 6.5, 200 watt ones I've had in the garage for years. I had to drill 4 new holes, but wasn't a big deal. Much easier with an extra set of hands. Just for grins, I took the dash cover off of the front speakers to see what was in there. I found that they have a foam sound direction type thing in there that really restricted the sound. I cut the opening out about .5" on each side and slid them back in. I don't know how much it will help, but I feel better! ;)

98jeepkid 01-20-2012 08:53 AM

I put the kickers in mine off of quadratec. The best speakers I've had so far other than some high quality pioneers in my truck but for the pice and sounds the kickers are hard to beat.
