Thinking of turbo charging my jeep

Is it worth it what do i get out of it and what do u reccomend guys

bluvikng 11-22-2007 11:36 PM

It is very simple. Do you have $6,000 dollars to waste?

tiny terror 11-22-2007 11:42 PM

Are you looking for speed in a jeep? That's like adding wings to a brick to help it fly better.

MR.CLIFFORD 11-22-2007 11:46 PM

I'm adding a pro charger to my jeep. I don't see what all the fuss is about.

Kenny! Before you die, can you tell us which motor you have in your jeep??

tiny terror 11-22-2007 11:47 PM

Is it for speed, MrC?

MR.CLIFFORD 11-22-2007 11:51 PM

Yep. My junk only ran a 15.37 in the quarter. I'm trying to get into the 14s so dropping 8500 dollars on a pro charger is the best bet.

so its the same as trying to get speed out of a riceburner right? :D

i'd do it if i had the money. JP did it...not looking to race everyone but to be able to have power for the highway. of course it would probably have been easier and cheaper for them to regear if they didn't already have the correct gear ratio.

btw, i raced this girl i know in her 4door honda and killed her with my jeep on 32's and 3.07's :D :D :D

turbo is where im going with my rig as well, but not before i do a complete rebuild with parts from 505 performance. the rig goes in january and ill have more details then

benjamin24 11-24-2007 05:35 AM

you'd think with cost of a turbo or supercharger, that a small v-8 swap would be the way to go?

BABDBAT 11-24-2007 11:50 AM

If I had the money I would drop a turbo diesel in my jeep and chip it out...

Kenny2515 11-24-2007 05:50 PM

that is true but now i dont know if i should get a diesal or a v8

I know diesel is better on gas cost but still

Triple88a 11-24-2007 06:39 PM

you people need to chill a bit, there is nothing "ricey" about turbo so get your facts right. I'm getting sort of anoyed by folks thinking they know too much about shit.

You can never know too much about shit. So you need to chill. :flipoff:

I was serious about the pro charger. :flipoff: The 10-14 psi w/ P-1SC and twin highflow intercooler system nets 65-85% gains.

JeepCommandoja 11-24-2007 07:31 PM

I had considered a v8 swap but i really just love the straight six engine design and my other car is a beemer so i got my straight six family outside.

Not to mention the feel(and sound) of a turbo is awesome and the plus is that turbos have awesome gains on engines in the I form.

i had considered a super charger but from what my mechanic told me is that the block is too thin to last very long. and also who wants to run another belt when you could generate your boost off of your engines waste?

or you could take the 8500 and buy a newer used sport bike and run high 10s or low 11s, and leave the jeep to do what they do best CRAWLING

64panhead 11-24-2007 07:46 PM

I tried listening to the reasoning of others in the modifications of my jeep. It didn't work. Last I checked, my junk had no problems crawling at the mall. :wavey:

JeepCommandoja 11-24-2007 08:02 PM

Jeeps are very good at crawling especially on the freeway and sport bikes are for people that dont have much to live for.

Odhinn 11-24-2007 08:15 PM

I looked into it a few months ago, but decided to cost was way to high.

This is the site I finally settled on when I was looking. Good write-up with torque and HP breakdowns.

Treat it as you would treat any internet source.;)

edit: I would highly recommend before you install a turbo or supercharger that you do a rebuild/refresh on the engine If you have high miles. I have seen the bottom end of a couple of high mileage engines give out after an install.

MR.CLIFFORD 11-24-2007 08:23 PM

Kenne Bell isn't really an internet source. He is more like... THE source! ;)

I know. just Covering all the bases from opinions.:punk:

MR.CLIFFORD 11-24-2007 08:28 PM

When fact reigns true you don't have to worry about opinions. :)

Odhinn 11-24-2007 08:29 PM

Doesn't seem to stop most that are hiding behind keyboards from spouting.:)

We need more smilies.

64panhead 11-24-2007 08:33 PM

i didnt mean to step on any toes, it was more like a joke than anything. and sport bikes arnt just for people who have nothing to live for they are for people who like gas milage {mine gets around 60mpg} and who would rather spend there money on there jeep for mods insted of in the gas tank driving to friggin work

No worries this is the one I was going to put on my Hog. Ran out of money after stroking it.:( Bikes are great to play on but only when the rubber side is down.

Depending on what a person wants out of their Jeep a Regear would be a great start and a whole lot cheaper then Engine work.;)

I wear steal toe'd boots for such occasions. :wavey:

I would kill myself on a bike. I need at least 4 wheels. And I only use that many 50% of the time!

Would have been nice but before I got rid of it I was pulling the front wheel off the ground in second. Not unusal for a plastic sport bike (no offense intended all bikes are cool) but mine was a dresser at about 1200 lbs (if I remember correctly). If an engine is built correctly and geared right you would be amazed what they can produce.;)
