2004 jeep tj overheating on beach
Hey everyone. I'm the proud new owner of a 2004 Jeep tj (4L 6cyl) 5 speed manual. Like everyone here I'm hooked. Does the smile ever come off your face when you drive (especially with the doors off)?

Anyways, the reason I've joined the forum is to talk with others about their trials and tribulations. Love the jeep. It runs great when it's dead low tide and the sand is hard. However, I've driven along the softer sand for about 2 km (just over 1 mile) in 4H and the needle danced very, very close to the red. I was in 2nd gear (just under 2rpms), as third just didn't have enough guts. Tires were down to 20 psi. (pretty much stock except for the 31" tires) Plus there was another jeep with its hood up that had overheated. Is this normal for jeeps ( thought they could go anywhere)

Any suggestions on what's going on? I've purchase a Flowkooler (1750) water pump to hopefully cool the engine when it's put to the test. Haven't installed it yet. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
