Coils Stiffness?

How do know how stiff your coil springs are? I'm curious because I bought my jeep with the lift, tires, and wheels already installed

Eaglektd 01-24-2012 04:37 PM

The factory coils have a tag on them, with coresponding number 14-19(?), the higher the number the stiffer your springs. If it was a coil lift which was put in aftermarket it's a good bet the the springs are stiffer than the stock springs were.

The brand is teraflex

Eaglektd 01-24-2012 06:05 PM

18 is the spring stiffness, last 2 numbers before the letters on the part number.

Thanks!

Ah you have TF coils.

One size fits all I think. Now I'm not talking about lift height.

Some lift manufactures have different rates.

But I think TF is all the same.

Stock springs will differ from jeep to jeep.
That's where all the "spring rate" and " rubi coil" talk comes in.

You just trying to figure out your lift height?

Dealer said 2" but I'm thinking 2.5"

TF 2.5 is a popular lift.

I have it in a box awaiting install :D

Black coils. I don't recall seeing a tag on them though

No tag on mine either.

I'll get another pic tomorrow. It's too dark now

Here's the pics of the suspension and lift kit

Photo of the tags on my springs when my Jeep was new. See post #6.

Mine (on that side) was a 16. You need to check all four, as the stiffness sometimes differs from one side to the other. And sometimes the tag is tucked up in the coils, or gone.

Lift Types???

It doesn't matter since there is no such thing as Rubicon coils. You have one step from the stiffest front coils.

What D said ^^

But if the coils were upgraded. The rears will be upwards of 60. Guessing 58-59

IP0VV3R 01-27-2012 04:39 PM

Here's a pic of the rear driver side coil

Attachment 93221

The full number is 4457
If I understand correctly, the stiffness is 57
