How do I tell which transmission I have?

I have a 1999 Wrangler 6cyl with 5 sp manual transmission. I have the cold shifting problem that has been discussed here and I'd like to figure out which transmission I have and try replacing the fluid.

The Haynes manual show where to look to identfy the AX and BA but I can't find the markings. They also talk about a NV3550 in the back of the book. Is that a different transmission?

When I bought it about a year ago I got an equipment list from Chrysler and they list it as DDQ-5-Speed Manual Transmission.

Any suggestions?

Thanks
Mike

I have an auto in my 99, but i'm pretty sure it's the ax-15.

Yeap should be the ax-15 for the 99 models.

It's definitely an Aisin AX-15 tranny and Redline's MT-90 is a great fully-compatible synthetic gear lube for it. Get it from either www.redlineoil.com/ or www.summitracing.com/ :)

Auto Zone carries Redline oils.

I got the fluid and was under the jeep and I noticed that the fill and drian holes are in different locations than the manual shows. My fill hole is on the driver's side and the drain hole is on the passengers side. does this sound correct for the AX15?

Thanks

mike

Check/Fill plug is on passager side, highest plug, 15/16th Socket, need a pump to get oil in there.
