Spacers - are they safe?
The "new" centerline rims on my 98 Sahara have the wrong backspacing. Ive spent over a solid month looking for 15x8 "chrome" rims with 4 inch backspacing that i like that's "affordable". BLAH!
4WheelParts suggested I use spacers. My Jeep buddy says theres a right way and a wrong way to do things.
Thinking Long Term:
Are spacers safe? What are the pro's / con's for them.
Are used spacers safe?
New I'm seeing $80-$150 per set, are certain brands better than others?
Is there a range to safely "space"?
Not sure if this matters:
Boyfriend wants to eventually put a 3 inch lift on it. He just bought 31 inch tires about 4 months ago for his black TJ (with new black rims) . We already swapped the wheels and dont care for the black rims on the green sahara.
Regardless of what I do - I will have an additional $200 cost to swap & balance tires so the new tires are on the sahara. We are selling his black wrangler, so Im hoping to make the centerlines work.
The Jeep is mainly for driving around town - and a few trips out in the wilderness when we can, but even then nothing extreme.

Spacers are fine and even the rough country ones are good. We have run them for years without issue. Dad likes his rubi wheels better than anything, so I had to figure out how to run them lol
A lot of it is going to be personal opinion...
i would never run them myself but without ever running them, i have nothing factual to contribute besides an opinion.
Its like people saying a KN drop in filter is terrible for your wrangler...i've run one since i bought it without any issue at all and no extra "dirt or elements" in the intake tube when i took it out to test...
i'd personally just get rims with correct spacing...but like i said, nothing more than an opinion.
I agree with you Owen - had I picked them out .. i wouldve.
They'll add stress to your bearings, but the spacers they have today are relatively safe. I didn't wanna run em on my Jeep...but that's just me.
Don't buy used ones. You never know what they've been subjected to. Too much torque applied to the lugs? Too many cold winters and hot summers? No telling.
Spidertrax makes the best ones, from what I've gathered (thought I was gonna have to use em for a while, but got my prob fixed and ended up not needing em). Although I think any of the major Jeep parts companies have brands of similar quality.
The people that use them here on the forum insist on checking the torque on the spacer lugs when you have the tires rotated. Me personally, I thought about using the spacers with my Gamblers, but then I found wheels with the right backspacing that weren't much more than a set of spidertrax spacers. so that's what I went with, Dick Cepek DC2 wheels.
