2001 Wj ???

before you ask yes i signed up and asked on cherokeeforum and jeepforum just seening if ya'll can help out before the jeep gets sold of the lot. ....great price!

Looking to get a nice grand cherokee for the wife.

found a nice one here in town ... 2001 limited, with all the bells and wissles.
has the 318 i beleave 4.7. But it is full time 4wd only has 4hi N and 4LO. was kinda looking for one with the 2hi option.

My questions are ...
1. Do these usaully have LSD's front and rear?
2. what common problems do these have?
3. what is the typical gas milage for this jeep (fulltime 4wd limited grand)?

thanks for any info ya'll can provide.

1) Yes, I believe they do.

2) My parents have owned to Cherokee's and our 94' had all sorts of problems. Our 2007 has already been back to the dealership a couple times because of transmission problems.

3) Mileage ranges on the 16 - 20 similar to the Wrangler.

1) Front is open and rear lsd with towing or v8's I believe.

2) Can't tell ya, but it is half of a Mercedes Benz

3) MPG is 16-20mpg depending on driving styles.

4.7L = 287ci - 230hp(?)

5.2L & 5.9L was available only in the ZJ.

I've got an '01 WJ V8 Limited 4WD. 150k on the clock.

There were two 4WD options on the WJ: Selectrac and Quadradrive with QuadratracII. Selectrac is a conventional 2WD, 4HI, N, 4LO. Only an option on lower end WJ's (Laredos) unless factory ordered. QD uses a full time 4HI with variloc axles front and rear (similar to LSD) and in the T-Case. 4LO locks the t-case.

So 1 is LSD F&R unless it is Selectrac (you described QD). The rear is a D44A (aluminum).

2 is most common problems are the blend door if it has dual zone climate control. $$ or alot of time to replace as the dash needs to be removed. Happens around 100k. Check the AC/Heat out of both sides and find out if it's already been done (good thing). Heated seats go bad often as well. Mostly, it's the luxury items on the thing that go bad.

3 Mine is a pig, get's about 12-15 with 31's, 4" lift, cat n back and intake.

I will tell you though, driving up in the mountains in the snow is a blast. It'll break loose if you push it but it holds the road better than anything else I've ever driven in inclement weather. HTH.

This one has a D35 rear pretty sure? made sure to look and it had the rubber fill plug and looked just like the turdy 5 under my TJ.

yeah i know the 44 is better and looking for a rubi rear to put under my TJ.

but this aint gonna see to many trails and will probally stay stock, cause it's for the wife, kids and dogs. basicly the family ride.:(
