How can you tell? Is Smittybilt a decent company, or am i going to have to replace it soon?

smittybilt tire carrier - Google Search

Smittybilt is popular because its affordable but not really known for high quality. I have no experience with them, just what I have read here. Maybe some actual owners will chime in.

Oh Snap i see on there i only googled body armor 4x4 because thats what the roof rack is so i thought he would keep the same brand through out the Jeep. Thanks fellas. now who has it and what do you think of it?

Its unfortunate bulletproof mfg from back in the day went out of business, i bought a rear swing out from a friend of mine that was on a built TJ he bought for the rear axle, and part out the rest as much as possible.. the bumper has to be at least 6+ years old, and doesn't make any noises, is very stout and has a 3 gallon air tank plumbed into it..

the problem with the smitty carriers is how they weld the swing out arm onto the bumper, they need to weld through to the bottom of the bumper but it appears as though its just welded on the top surface of the bumper instead.

It's a smitty and it is pure junk.

I have that bumper on my TJ..It cracks around the mount were it is welded..

It is only welded on top.. It is made by Smittybilt..The back of the bumper is not boxed in so it has lots of flex..When opening and closing the tire carrier..

Ok now I'm gettin nervous so I checked to see of I had any cracks and its free of them but only time will tell.

It is for reasons like those that I continue recommending against Smittybilt's Chinese-built crap, much to the chagrin of some of the Smittybilt defenders around the forum.

I also just bought a Tj with this same set-up. I think I am going to have to agree that this will be going to the junk pile.

Mine is all rusted and scaling, but my jeep is not at all rusty, in fact it is pretty darn clean for 12 years old.

I just keep thinking of this thing dropping my 33" on the road, and causing an accident
