A few Questions!

New Jeeps owner, just got a '99 Sahara that was my dads. All is stock inside, and I don't get delivery till March 1st.

I am going to work my way inside out on upgrades.

So, my first step is to totally revamp the stereo system. I am looking at the Apline CDE-123 and going to add the Satellite XM radio as well. Where is a good spot to mount the antenna? Somewhere that works with both top on and off.

2nd, is I am going to change out the speakers. It has a sound bar. Good idea to add component speakers? I believe its a 2 speaker sound bar. I know I would have to make a cut out for the small speaker. Also, should I stick with the 4x6 in the dash or upgrade to something bigger.

Now my last question ... wanting to add a sub or pair of subs in the back behind the seat. Some kind of box that I can secure, yet remove when I need the space. I am wanting to build the box myself, does anyone have any ideas? I have a pair of 12" unopened in a box, not sure if I need to do 10's? I am not looking a boom boom, but just great sound with my top off!

antenna...there is no antenna at all? is there at least a hole on the right front fender area for an antenna?

the best way i know to find out what size speakers fit where in just about any make of car is to goto the crutchfield.com site and put in the exact year/make/model of the car and they will tell you what size speakers go where...

its pretty common to have subwoofer boxes/enclosures with plugs that can be unplugged so you can take them out to make room to haul stuff around...one BIG tip, the bare metal contacts on the plug can really hose you if they short out with anything metal inside the jeep

i had this happen and it popped something in the amp, so when you unplug the sub box put some tape over the connectors to make sure the metal can't contact other metal in the back of the jeep and short circuit

He's talking about the XM radio antenna. I would think a good place would be either right on top of your sound bar, or that empty spot between the sun visors right under the footman loop.

You can put 5.25" speakers in the dash with an adapter and 6.5 will fit in the sound bar, using the grill cover it came with. I would never put 2 12" subs in a jeep. You would blow your ear drums! One 12" or a 10" in the rear will be just fine, also less to steal if they get it off. There are tons of DIY and factory made sub boxes that you can look up to mount behind the rear seat. Most will bolt to the tub and are covered when the tailgate are closed. So it is pretty safe from thieves and removable. If you make it tall enough to block the handle for the tumbling rear seat you will have a small lockable trunk too!

Nalin 5.25 dash speaker adapters.

Sub box, Probably the nicest one you can buy. Do a search, there are threads with dimensions for making your own.

Thanks for your info. Yeah looking for some plans. I want to build it myself, more satisfaction knowing I made something with my own 2 hands. Just the same reason I like to do the car stereo install.

I have a link in my sig to a how to for installing the stereo. A Jeep is all about making it your own. No two Jeeps are a like. Also check into changing the gauge lights to match your radio. That is what I did with my blue radio. Also look at getting a new front bumper sooner. Just that can dramatically change how it looks.

Good luck.

Go to caraudio.com's forum. They have free enclosure blue prints.

And for the soundbar i went with a set of infinity kappa perfect components and love them. Not much fab Needed to mount the crossovers and tweeters. It took me 3 hours start to finish installing the speakers and running all new speaker wire
