Used Jeep -what size lift do I have?

Hi All-

I bought a used lifted 07 JK last year and am getting around to replacing he shocks. Problem is, I do not know what size lift it has to know what size shocks I need?
Here is what I know. Current tire size 315/70R/17. Height from ground to bottom of factory fender is 40". Height from ground to top of Jeep is around 73"-73.25 (I think the stock height of a Jeep is around 71")

Are there any other areas I can measure?

This is my DD and I don't do any hardcore rock crawling, but do go off road, so I am looking at a shock that has as smoother ride and not too stiff.

The front shocks say "Explorer" on them. Rear shocks are Monroes.

Thanks

Pictures would help tremendously.

Never heard of either shock before. I think Monroe is a re-branded Rancho shock because the web site looks very similar to Rancho and also has a rancho link on it MONROE SHOCKS & STRUTS :: Ride Control Solutions from the Industry Leader. Oddly enough I think those exporer's are re-branded procomp shocks.

X3 on pics.

x4 on the pics! Show us what you got!!

You should be able to take it to your local 4x4 shop and have them look at it. They should be able to figure out what you have.

The part numbers on the shocks should also help figure out what you have.

by your measurements I would say around 2.5 inches. my stock fender measurements are 36" all around. 2.5" lift and 2 extra inches of tire with the 35s

Thanks everyone...i'll get pics tomorrow...I should have known better...DOH! I thought the measurements would have been more precise than a pic...but live and learn!

This was good advise. I had to do this to figure out what shocks I needed. I also got a used jeep with a lift. There are 2-1/2 spacers on top of my coils and i had factory shocks; not much downward travel distance left on them.

I measured my fenders: about 38-1/2" and I have heavy bumpers.

Here are some pics of the 07 JKU I bought that I am trying to figure my lift size so I know what shocks to get.

Thank everyone!

Yep, looks like 2 or 2.5"

citified 02-06-2012 08:27 AM

look at where the shocks bolt on to the axle in the front and see if there is an extension bracket on it too. pop up a pic of it if you dont know for sure.

Thanks...I'll do that tonight just to be certain.

Much appreciate the help!

According to the size you posted, those are 34" tires. I'd be willing to bet that is more likely a 3" to 3.5" lift.

daggo, seems like I figured that once to be a 34.4. Isn't that considered 35", you know, nominal size?

daggo66 02-07-2012 08:45 PM

The math says its a 34.

Stock swing arms... You'd have to ask the JK guys, but I know if it's anything over 2.5 on a TJ, it would have aftermarket swing arms. Also the stock spring height on a TJ is 12", so you can measure the springs. Again, not sure on a JK, so maybe someone with a stoker could measure for you. Nice Jeep, drive it in good health! :)

Thanks all...actually I was at 4 Wheel Parts getting a new steering stabilizer last week and asked the guy and he said it is a ProComp 2" lift. So now I know what shocks to get after I get my exhaust manifold replaced (cracked driver side). Man, the wife is PO'd about the list of maint. items on this thing at only 55K miles!!! :hide:
