Go Pro Video

Im thinking about getting a Go Pro camara to put on the hood for trails this summer. Was just wondering what anyone thought about them good or bad??

Ageless Stranger 02-07-2012 07:23 PM

Excellent! I use mine all every time we go wheeling. Here's a sample...

Nice video Ageless, I would like to get one of these too. Which model do you have? I like how clean the videos are with all the bouncing from the jeep.

I've heard they're pretty awesome. Never used one, but I'm thinking about picking one up after looking through a couple recent threads.

a good off roading camera.....
who owns a go pro camera

jcf 02-07-2012 07:28 PM

We have the latest model & it's fantastic!

ESP 02-07-2012 07:28 PM

I think the main model is about $199?

HookmCowboys 02-07-2012 07:29 PM

Great video! How long do you leave it on? Run all day the go back and edit out the good stuff? Of turn ot off and on?

Mine is the HD Hero. They have a Hero 2 now... It has a better LCD and an external mic jack, which would be very nice..

Here's another nice view from a GoPro.

Does the camera record and play back in 1080p?

kbwwolf 02-07-2012 07:35 PM

This is what I'm eyeballing, for both motorcycle and Jeep use:

HD HERO2 Motorsports Edition

User adjustable for 480/720/1080

The one drawback is that movie lengths are limited to I think 30 minutes. It then rolls over to start a new file so you end up having to join multiple files in a video editor if you want a longer movie. But in most cases that is not an issue.

Two of em do, one of em does not.

Product Comparison: HD HERO2 & HD HERO Cameras

ESP 02-07-2012 07:41 PM

It looks like they still carry the original HD hero 960 in most best buys for $149.00 It shoots in 960p, 720p, and 480p. It comes with a mount for attaching it to your body or hat etc and a water proof casing.

Get the Hero 2 as of this month they will also be offering a wireless back to the unit. The videos in my post above were made with the HD Hero I have not as of yet uploaded any with the Hero2 but am happy I upgraded.

Also understand that the actual video quality is better that the video you see after a youtube upload.

You have to have multiple batteries however if you want to use it for any significant amount of time.

Tgass 02-07-2012 07:51 PM

I have one and I only used for the drags when I had my mustang but next time I go offroading I will definitely bring it with me. If you really want one I say go for it.

ESP 02-07-2012 07:55 PM

Hard to understand why they can only put a battery in there that last 2.5 hrs? I would have preferred anything close to 4-5.

ESP 02-07-2012 08:03 PM

Man I like the Hero 2 "motorsport edition". It looks like it comes with a suction cup mount so you can mount it to your dash or the like.

HookmCowboys 02-07-2012 08:05 PM

Any videos made with being mounted on hood or roof? Would like to see if you have one

Ya the suction cup mount is awesome. I mount it to my windshield and window all the time.

Dylanjwhall 02-07-2012 08:05 PM

I gots one too! haha i love it and i play with it all the time mainly when I'm out on the water with the USCG though but here is a video of me doing a very mild off-road trail in Quantico VA
HD Go Pro Off-Roading! (Something Different) - YouTube

oh and if you cant tell its mounted straight on the hood it was also raining that day but the water typically moves out of the way much faster than how it is there

ESP 02-07-2012 08:08 PM

Don't you worry about the suction cup coming off? How would you mount the motorsport edition to other areas outside the jeep where you cant stick the cup on? Does it come with something else to do this?

One more question :)

How do you change the speed of the video like the one above? Do you do that after the fact or during? Very much a GoPro noob here.

IndyJeepMan 02-07-2012 08:50 PM

You slow it down after.

Each quality mode has a certain FPS (Frames per Second)

I believe the 720 on the new Hero 2 is 120fps. The old one was 60 in 720p.

I have the HD hero, and would love to upgrade!

They come with other mounting options. 3M tape and such. All in my links above, posts #11 and 13.

The suction cup should hold pretty well, from what I've read.

I have it mounted to the jeep with one of the sticky mounts that is provided in the kit
also in that video i put about 15 min of editing work to get it like that with the speeds and what not, although there is a Slo-Mo feature although that is a SLO-MO feature haha something like 120fps

I have the motorsports package Jude. The potato salad hill video I posted above was shot using the suction mount. The one under the Jeep was using one of the 3M mounts that come with it.

ESP 02-07-2012 09:41 PM

Thanks, you guys have really messed up with showing me this. Now I'm wanting to go and "check" them out at Best Buy tomorrow. Better leave my birthday money and CC here though..
