i have a couple hundred acres here in eastern ky

and want to turn it into a 4/wheelen playground/anyone interested ????

will have decent hill climbs, mud pits and such-also thinking about putting in camping sites, cabins, dinner, supply hut.......

just curious what do you all think ......

denisbaldwin 02-09-2012 09:38 AM

That sounds awesome. I grew up on 10 acres and it was a blast to drive fourwheelers, snowmobiles and, of course, Jeeps!

jcf 02-09-2012 02:39 PM

Sounds like a great idea & a lot of work but if it all happens it would be a very fun place for off roader's to spend time. Look up Area BFE in Moab, it is privately owned & sounds like what you are thinking of doing

4Jeepn 02-10-2012 06:04 PM

sounds good, but 1st check your local zoning laws and make sure you can get insurance on your idea.

BAP 02-10-2012 07:25 PM

yes, im planning on checking the zoning laws and such, thanks for the heads up though..

if nothing else just a great place for us jeepers to hang out and have a good ole time.(family style) if you know what i mean..

i had the property logged a year ago but did not clear cut..

we already have some nice logging roads and a couple mud pits, i ride every day(cant get enough---lol)

just some thoughts going threw my head...i own a rental community on 6 acrs there but it would not interfear with the wheeling..

just think it would be nice to have some fun competitions with the jeeps, or heck 4 wheelers, anyhing off road.

thanks...bap

Cool! That's what a guy did in Colfax, LA (called Louisiana Mudfest). Now, just a couple years into it, has live concerts on 3-day weekends and even is on the Travel Channel this week. It's a real good time. He allows 4-wheelers, all 4WD's, campers, tents, campfires, etc The only rule is to not feed the cows. LOL

BAP 02-22-2012 04:43 AM

heck with the price of grain around here anyone is welcome to feed my horses----lol

Cajunjay21 02-22-2012 02:57 PM

Better yet... if your horses are tame enough... sell the grain to people to feed the horses (like a petting zoo). LOL

^ nice idea.

I've also had to sign waivers denying all liability when I've wheeled in some public areas here in MI. Just incase anyone gets hurt... Must have an adult sign.

BAP 02-25-2012 01:45 PM

these horses are as tame as they can get, there like puppy dogs--lol

as far as the waiver, yep...it,s a must,,

and i really want to get this going,-should i go to my lawyer and set up a legal waiver. i wasnt thinking about charging to wheel here but maybe have to have help paying for the build, maybe a small fee for a 3 day pass or even season pass.

but i really just want to open a playground for us wheelers that we dont have to worry about the gates being shut, and just haveing a great time with the competions or just wheeling around..

what are your thoughts on this,
it is a great place and could be so much more.

...bap

Cajunjay21 02-26-2012 07:32 AM

Honestly, people would expect to pay something, and most wouldn't mind it either just to have a fun and "legal" place to go for a day or the weekend. I mean, how convenient would THAT be to have a place to meet your buddies and go muddin all weekend?

crafty 02-26-2012 07:55 AM

If you open it they will come :D

BAP 02-27-2012 07:42 AM

thanks guy,s --this is going to happen and i cant wait to get it started..

it would be great to open it with a meet and greet for the w.f.

there are real nices places on the farm now so may not take too long to just get it open for some wheeling..

Mattsyj 03-06-2012 04:03 PM

Good idea

tazmann910 04-12-2012 01:27 AM

If you build it they will come. Us jeepers in GA will make the trip if needed.

Hey Crafty, long time no talk.

Renegade Redneck 04-12-2012 05:41 AM

Where are you located in Eastern Ky? I was born in Paintsville Ky. and still have a lot of relatives down there, or should I say "Kin Folk" lol

AV8R 04-13-2012 09:45 AM

I would travel from North Georgia, too. I've spent some quality time in Whitesburg... Are you near there?

what are your thoughts on this

post up on your flyers (or put up a sign) that you can't really afford to build it up and ask folks to donate what they can afford to or volunteer to help build it. That doesn't work these days for most things, but I'd be willing to bet that a large chunk of the jeeper population would help you out :)

BAP 05-07-2012 07:26 AM

sorry guy,s i havent been on in awhile, (taking care of other buisness),,,,but im still into this idea..

hey renegade, i was born in paintsville myself--lol

not sure where whitesville is without looking it up..

but more input on my plan would be very helpfull, and appreciated....

thanks guy,s...

Tippittrg 05-16-2012 04:23 PM

Put an ad on CL asking for local jeep clubs to help. You should be able to find a good waiver format online and just make whatever changes are needed.

BAP 05-16-2012 08:13 PM

good idea about c.l.---thanks

Bluegrass 05-25-2012 12:15 PM

Got to get Louisville MOAB in on it.. The guy max that owns it is a good guy and I'm sure they would help put the word out

JeepWranglerNation 05-25-2012 01:05 PM

One of our dreams is to have more then a few acres of land.. and have a campground/jeep trail.. once you leave the hard surface.. you have to off road back to your camping area.

Sounds like your set.. I would bring in a landscaper and have them draw something up (view the lay of the land) and hopefully you have a few streams to cross and more then a few hills to climb.. nothing to strenuous.. make it fun and don't put camp sites right by the trail.. Sites would only accessible to 4 wheel drives no campers etc. Winching areas would be an option.. so maybe add winch post in each of these locations.

Don't just do one trail.. but a whole series of trails.. with different skill levels. Close a few down in the winter months etc. Thou one issue you'll be facing, Insurance.. so you may need to post speed limit signs and get a contract sort of thing made up for anyone wanting to venture your trails.

tazmann910 05-25-2012 01:26 PM

Check out what Golden Mountain in Sparta TN did. They have all the things that are being talked about and it is a prime spot to go.

Also if you are looking for clubs to help, just let some of us know. I have a club called Off The Map based out of Atlanta and we might have some interest.

BAP 05-27-2012 07:00 AM

thanks guy,s,,,,im putting alot of thought into this and i am going to make this happen..,i am taking all of your ideas and putting them to use..

my property will does have multiple skill areas from very mild to exctremley wicked...

im probably going to start building this fall and through the winter..

thanks again for your ideas and offers of help....

Where in eastern, Ky?

jp2611 05-27-2012 02:08 PM

Sounds like a great idea and being more Jeep friendly would be nice......IMO you SHOULD charge something.......otherwise it COULD be a "free for all" on your property.

Charge a little something keep it area specific? Maybe Jeeps here...quads here...dirt bikes here....and a "trail area" for just puttin' along.......IDK thinking out loud....but there should be a fee to help a "feeling of responsibility" ......GOOD LUCK! Keep us informed might be a 3 day weekend.....hotel motel B&B close?

aussiecannon 05-30-2012 07:31 PM

Definitely check with your lawyer, and also the state fish and game office. I know every state has different laws, but here in NH, if your land is open for public use(ie: not posted) then you are covered by the state is someone gets hurt on your land while using it for recreation. This also goes for off road vehicles. State law prevents someone from suing you if they get hurt. But if you charge for the use of the land, this makes you fully liable if someone gets hurt. I would hate to see you get sued for doing such a great thing, so make sure you research it fully so you cover your butt.

aussiecannon 05-30-2012 07:36 PM

Another thought is to lease the use of the land to a local club, then they can carry insurance on it, and they can charge for the use of the land (through club memberships and event entries) and use the money to maintain the land. Just tossing some ideas out there for ya!
