Hello - I have a 1999 Jeep Wrangler, 4 cylinder engine, that is needing a new alternator. I was quoted a price at @ $425-$450 from several auto repair places. This seems very high to me. Anyone else had a alternator replaced recently for a cheaper price?? Or is this estimate correct?? Do want to pay too much but I want to get my baby fixed!! :nonono:

You can get a Green Mean alternator for that! You should be able to get a nice aftermarket one that performs at OEM specs for about half that if you can do the work yourself. Is this at a dealership? or some local mechanic?

I'd look into the cost of parts and install it your self. Where are you located? If not too far I could give you a hand installing it to save you a ton on labor.

Autozone has one for $125 plus a $52 core charge. You get the core back when you bring the old one in.

Thanks denisbaldwin & DrHolliday for replying! I thought that price was very high! I was only looking at local repair shops because I thought that the dealer would be too expensive so I was surprised at the quotes I was getting! Thanks DrHolliday for the offer and for letting me know about the Autozone price! My daughter has some friends who work on cars all the time and I just found out they replaced an alternator a couple of weeks ago so I'm going to get them to replace it for much cheaper!
