new guy who needs some help
Hello to all. After years of wanting a jeep, i finally bought a 91 yj with an soa. Only had it for a few days and she's in my will already. Here's the issue. The leafs springs are to me in pretty bad shape, doesn't ride to awful bad though. It also leans to the ds about an 1.5 lower than ps. Not sure whether i should replace springs or start over with an sua, i'm not even sure what of springs to get if i replace them. From what i've been told its a poor boy that doesnt appears to be done fairly well, I quess:whistling: Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys:wavey:

Welcome to the wondferful world of leaf springs. Pics when you're dealing with oddball questions can help greatly. Sounds like the leafs are shot if she leans to one side.

Does a soa wear springs out faster then the sua?

^ not really unless you get axle wrap in the rear.

Those look like stock leafs. Just get some new ones and your set. Keep it SOA IMHO.

where's the best place to get stock springs at. I looked at a guys stock jeep springs. his is 4 leaves in front and 5 in back. Mine are 5 are all the way around, do you know if that make any difference?

^ That seems backwards a bit but no it really shouldn't matter. Stock are 5 all the way aroung IIRC. Jc whitney sells stock springs. There are quite a bit of comapnies on the web that do.
Here is one:

Leaf Spring YJ Stock 5 Leaf (1)
I think if your drive shafts are up to the challenge you should go with some reverse eye 1"-1.5" lift springs built for SOA setups.

here are some good ones for sure:

Leaf Spring YJ SOA 1.5" Front (Single) RUB-RE1444

There are others out there too.

Thanks for the help yamjam, very grateful for your time. Im still a little confused on what to do though, being as a whole new RC kit comes with everything for pretty much the same price as springs alone. My mind is boggled.

Heh - I ditched mine years ago - lift kits are wonderful for supplying new springs. :)

Either case, keep it as stock (or as stock-like) as possible. Easier to find parts that way.

Yeah but IMHO it will be bouncier with rc springs. I have 2.5" rc springs SUA. It's a bit bouncy. I am used to it and really it does not bother me.

Since your already lifted with SOA just get new springs. Just because it's the same price does not mean your getting more for the money.

No problem on the help either. Just be aware that most likley no matter how much you read or how many opinions you get. Untill you do it yourself you'll never fully understand it. :)

In the pics you posted, the rear springs look fine but that front spring is screwed.

Couple of options for a SOA (doing it right). Throwing together and mix and matching packs of stock springs (bastard packs) and experimenting. Or a set of Rubicon Express SOA 1.5" springs. The RC springs are made for spring under and you'll likely end up sitting much higher than what you want. If you need help on pricing, I'll be more than happy to help you out with the RE springs.

I probably should have posted this picture earlier for a better back view:facepalm:. I thought that the leaves were bad on the back because the way she sags on the ds. Could it be the shackle instead. I looked at everything underneath and it all looks good, but not exactly sure what I should be looking for anyway.

Now as far as springs go, Can i replace just the front two and be fine or does all four need to go. If is not to much trouble I would appreciate a price on the RE springs. I looking to make a purchase soon before my beautiful wife talks me into spending it on something else.:nonono:
