Swaybar Disconnects
 
On a pure stock 2012 Wrangler would the quick disconnects make any sense at all to add?

Would this be a desirable thing to get put on, or does the stock suspension not have enough articulation? Thanks in advance!

It's all about where and how you wheel my friend. Ever been in a spot where the one wheel in the air has all the power? Disconnects can help with that to a degree. Ever think you'll be in that position? Then you may need discos. Honestly, if you do not have a Rubicon, I'd save up for a more agressive tire. You can go places like no other is a stock Wrangler. The discos are usually a component of a lift kit. Which goes on with bigger tires. You are in the Seattle area. We are in Olympia. Let's go to Tahuya next week end and see how you do. You can figure your upgrade path a trail at a time.

They help a TON. I have seen it first hand. At a local meet my buddy took his stock JK onto the ramp and made it about 3ft up. Disconnected his front sway bar and ran it again. Reached about 7ft. Worth every penny and id recommend the Teraflex only because they have brackets that mount on the frame so once you disconnect you have a place to "store" the sway bar as opposed to using zip ties.

In the pics the yellow jeep is stock X disconnected. The red one is a connected stock X

Go wheeling and see. In general, these are pretty low down the list of mods for typical trail riding folks. Many wheel pretty regularly and never bother to disconnect their sway bars. They do work of course (see pics in post above), but I personally have never found myself needing that kind of articulation.

True! When we wheel in flat, swampy areas, there is no point. But sometimes we get lucky and our citrus trips are a blast and thats where the disconnects are needed. Or else youll end up looking like this

^^ And there you go. If you go wheeling a lot and find yourself looking like that, then quick discos ought to promptly percolate toward the top of your list. If you rarely or never find yourself in that type of situation, then you can save the quick disco money for other mods. It's all about use. :thumb:

I'm going to have to say yes they're desirable. After following a friend around a local OHV park who was in a TJ with discos I saw firsthand how discos would have helped the handling. This photo below is an example.

From what I understand I would not have gone over at such a sharp angle at first because the front driver's side wheel would have been able to drop down coming off the top of the hill. I think it might have kept the Jeep more level from side to side while on the hillside as well. I don't have the picture right now but there is one where we both parked a front wheel on a rock. My friend's TJ had a pretty level stance where my JKU was leaning pretty good.

Hey thanks for the offer, I had never heard of Tahuya, been watching some You-Tubes of the park. Really cool. I haven't actually taken delivery yet of my Wrangler should be by end of month. It's already shipped.

The first time I go I will be incognito because I don't want anyone to laugh. Then I'll consider having witnesses. Ha Ha

i say get them.. they are a good bang for the buck... imo they arnt too expensive they open new doors ... well worth it

So hopefully my friend won't mind me snagging a photo from his photobucket account, but this is from our trip last weekend and shows what I was trying to explain about how disconnecting helps the body roll/stability. Notice how his TJ is much "flatter" in stance than my JKU. He's disco'd I'm not. He's on a higher rock than I am BTW.

What I was wondering, what would the effect be if one forgot to reconnect then hit the paved road? Would it just be more pronounced body roll? Has anyone ever done that? I'm sure I will, sooner or later!

This was a good example of restricted flex. that front wheel should be stuffed into the fender well. Problem soon to be solved!

Yes, you will definetely feel a pronounced body roll with the sway bar disco'd. I don't reccommend running that way on the street, unless you go Antirock.
