One day I was driving and all of a sudden the jeep died. The shift light keeps flashing now. Now it won't start an there is a ticking noise commin from by the battery (1990 jeep yj 2.5l) turns out the ticking was comming from these two things (seen in picture) anyone have any ideas ????
Thanks

looks like relay's, when you turn the ignition key it trips a relay which engages the starter

Thanks. So is it the relays that I have shown in the picture ?

Also the jeep will still turn over just no spark or fuel.

Changed the relays.... Still makes same ticking noise.

I'm having the same problem.... The shift light is blinking too though... It's at the mechanic's right now and they're quoting me $1200 to fix the problem. My research indicates that it needs a new computer... The mechanic wants to change everything from the crankshaft position sensor to the distributor cap and everything in between. Oddly enough, he says he doesn't think it needs a computer.

I read a bunch of theads and pretty sure it is ecu. Search ecu brain sergury. You can replace capasitors in ecu for $5 from radio shack. Not hard did mine last weekend. Only did 2 of 3 caps, not fixed, prob one i didnt

I had this issue and it turned out to be the ground on the starter, it was a free fix, disconnect your battery and get under there and check your grounds.

Will try the grounds next. Up for anything now. Wish i would of threw a rod through oil pan. At this point, that would be an ez fix
