what engine is available in 1994 sahara

Hey, this might sound dumbm, but I've been told that a 1994 sahara had an option for an inline 6 motor that is CARBURATED. is this true or am I being fooled.

Just the fuel injected 4.0 was available for the Sahara.

So the rest of the story..... I took a 1994 sahara on trade and it has an inline 6 motor that I think is carburated, parhaps electric carburator, but none the less carbed, I contacted the previous owner about it and he swears the engine is stock, I kinda doubt it, so I'm just doing a little research on my own, I'm new to jeeps and this is my first, parhaps I'm being baptised by fire

I don't see how it would be carb'd that late in the game. I think the last of the carb'd motors were pre-1991.

I know the 2.5 has a year or two that was a TBI setup, but I don't think that ever occurred on the 4.0 or 4.2. 4.0 on the YJ has always been FI and 4.2 was carbed and phased out after 1990.

Could have an older motor in it...

darkproximity 02-21-2012 03:08 PM

Thats a time consuming and potentially expensive swap to go back to a carbeurated motor.. and also is technically against federal law

PaulRevere1991 02-21-2012 05:10 PM

it might not be a 94, older yj sahara's were carbed

lannce 02-21-2012 05:28 PM

According to the title it is a 1994 sahara, the vin matches, and it does not have a rebuilt title, I'm outta town for a few days but I'l post some pics to see what you guys think.

True. But angainst fedral law i would argue. Maybe local laws. But where I live i could put any motor in any vehicle and no one would even know except me.

whether or not anyone would know isn't the point..

Essentially most areas requiring emissions will require you meet the emissions standards of the year the vehicle was produced. Typically if the motor thats swapped in puts out the same or less emissions, you're fine..

Are engine swaps legal? It depends.

We have no emissions testing where i live. In fact no vehicle inspection of any kind unless is a "constructed" vehicle.

It could be a TBI 4.0 that was swapped in. It looks kinda like a carb. But if you havea engine that matches the VIN, then its a 4.0L.

Ibuildembig 02-21-2012 06:39 PM

The only motor available in any sahara was a 6 cylinder. Got any pics under the hood we can look at?

DasfieldmarshelsYJ 02-21-2012 06:50 PM

he probaly just swapped it
