WTF Low Miles Used 20012 JKUs

Last week there were two used 2012 JKUs for sale in my area. One had 800 miles and the other had 1200 miles. One at a Chevy Dealer and the other at a Jeep Dealer. Are these buy backs? One was stock and the other had Winch and after market big wheels. I want a loaded JKU 2012 but with the ticking lifter deal I guess I am somewhat paranoid.

sneck 02-21-2012 02:40 PM

are you asking to hear about the rash of 2012 jk owners who traded back their jeeps? we are probably the wrong folks to ask, since one guys guess will be as good as the next. with that said, i'll go first

the owners were abducted by aliens, and the dealer repo'd the jeeps. a great deal, save to the smell of aliens in the back seat!

Dealership's owner/wife/kid wanted a drive around for the winter, now selling it as a Demo model?

strider_mt2k 02-21-2012 02:47 PM

Yay something new to needlessly fret over!

Why not ask the dealer?

bofa 02-21-2012 02:53 PM

I've seen a few here too. My guess was unreported shark attacks.

The dealer I buy from Usually has a few demos on the lot. Sometimes they only make it to 3K miles others to 12K

There are trade ins every year because it's a jeep. People buy them and then have buyer's remorse. All the jeep attributes can also steer a few people back to the dealer before the first payment arrives.

It must really suck to be those people.

I'm thankful every day that I get to drive this thing.

when I was shopping around Car Max had trucks with less then 1000 miles. He said people buy cars/trucks they can't afford. After the first payment or they have time to think about the payment they just rolled off the lot they sell them back for a loss. They'd rather take a $5-7k loss then ruin their credit.

I assume that Neptunians from the future had a little fun, but brought them back to 2012 in a time machine because gas was (or will be) $872,309 per gallon in 20012. Just a guess though.

Or it's possible that those Jeeps came out of Uranus, but let's not talk about that.

There are always trade-ins like that. Folks get the latest as soon as it's out, then decide that it's not for them. Dealers buy them at auction, slap the as-is no warranty sticker on the window and sell them. Starting in Feb or March, you can find every 'new' model year at other lots. Wait 'til after thre '13's hit the Chrysler lots, say this time next year, and go to craigslist and look up 2013 Wranglers. The dealer down here has a few used 2012's as well as a few new 2011's.

EDIT: and gas prices???? Jumped 22 cents between 8AM and 2PM today. Now I have to find a way to drag more cash from that 3rd point of contact...

We had one used Rubicon that was traded in by a guy who buys 10-15 new vehicles per year. He traded a 12 GC overland with 286 miles on it, the Rubicon had just over 2k miles, he traded an Explorer with just over 1k and now is trading a 12 Artic with 900 miles.

There are people out there that have the means to keep trading and then there are people that thought they wanted a Jeep and don't and then there are those that can't afford them and trade them for something else.

Best thing to do when looking at a low mileage current model year vehicle is to get the VIN and have someone run the service history. I can do it with all CJD products as long as I have the VIN and current mileage. This way you can see if it had issues and know what you are getting into.

They couldn't handle THE JEEP!

So they went and bought a HYBRID!

DarthJeep 02-23-2012 06:57 PM

Man I thought this was a 20,012 thread. I was hoping that they would be coming out with a diesel by then and maybe had fixed the leaky roof...

LilYeller 02-23-2012 07:12 PM

Tax write offs? Buying a new vehicle gets you anywhere up to $11k write off. If it was me I would buy a Jeep write off the $11k then sell it back to the dealer for dame near what I paid for it. Aint Jeeps great? lol

I sincerely hope you don't do your own taxes. The only way you can do that is if you live in a state where your registration is considered a property tax and the amount would be no where near that much.
