Just added Rotopax

Ok so I just added rotopax 3 gal gas cans on both side of the monster, they are located before the doors where my sahara sticker used to be. I load some pics in the AM but it was pretty easy. If anyone needs help doing this just let me know :)

I plan to paint the cans flat tan to match the interior (sahara) but leave a red stencil that reads (FUEL) on the side to match the grabbers; what do u guys think? Or maybe flat black.. Still not sure. thanks for the avatar pic bump I was at the gravedigger HQ in NC on my way to OBX and the guys let me take the pic.

jerladd 02-22-2012 09:21 AM

Those are pretty nice. Hopefully they're hard to get off because with the rising price of gas and big red FUEL label on the side of it it might make for a quick target for some piece of crap that wants to steal something. I like them though.

hartattack 02-22-2012 09:25 AM

Yea I thought that too ha ha actually they have the rotopax locking hard ware so they are locked on you need a vending machine type key to get them off

UnlimitedLJ04 02-22-2012 10:04 AM

looks fugly, IMHO. to each their own i guess.

Jerry Bransford 02-22-2012 10:11 AM

Having a full jerry can next to me just waiting to be t-boned spraying gasoline everywhere isn't something I'd be happy with.

hartattack 02-22-2012 10:44 AM

They are a little bright any suggestions on painting them?

hartattack 02-22-2012 10:48 AM

Same goes if they are mounted on the back like everyone else, I mean hell in Iraq we had them mounted on the hood so to each their own.

If you're comfortable with 3 gallons of gasoline in a plastic container mounted externally next to where you sit, go for it. Personally, I wouldn't be. And what is done in a war zone is not always done with safety high in the list of priorities... not everything we did in VN was real safe either.

And that was using extensively tested Scepter fuel cans containing diesel fuel...not gasoline, while you were wearing fire retardant military clothing, sitting in an armored Humvee.

And even then it's not smart.

hartattack 02-22-2012 11:02 AM

I agree Jerry, things in war are not safe, driving is not safe as well. I plan to use them just for trail use. Or a super long drive through TX already made drive twice this year :( . Thanks for your concern and help with the elec problem though. But the great thing about roto is that; I also purchased two water cans as well, so I can just swap them out to the water cans :)

Redsand 02-22-2012 11:16 AM

I would be afraid of ripping it off on a tree , trail riding

hartattack 02-22-2012 11:40 AM

I'll give a full review after this weekend

hartattack 02-22-2012 11:44 AM

You can't tell in the pic but they don't extend past the fender flare, but I will give a full review after the weekend trip

brs2427 02-22-2012 09:51 PM

thats a cool idea. i think they will look good painted

Here they are desert tan a little better I think

jerladd 02-23-2012 11:10 AM

That color looks much better, that's about the same color my winch will be when it gets back from the powder coater, maybe just a tad darker.

Not trying to be critical but I am curious--how hard would it be to punch a hole in the can and drain the gas out of it? Is it pretty tough?

hartattack 02-23-2012 12:22 PM

These things are no joke as far as toughness, but if someone wants something bad enough they will steal it. That's why most of us with a soft top don't leave much in our rigs. I leave EM empty unless a long trip or long trail ride. You could use a hammer and screwdriver on a metal can or even your jeeps gas tank; its just how strong the motivation.

hartattack 02-23-2012 12:27 PM

With all the negative remarks, I think most of y'all seem to be hating. Listen this was a creative idea that i haven't seen yet and I like it. If you don't like it fine by me. If you need help doing something similar please ask away I would live to help out.

Redsand 02-24-2012 01:01 AM

im not dogging ya, i just come really close to hitting stuff on my sides on the tight trails we have here. ive tore my snorkel off a few times and my nerf bars arent exactly round anymore. i do however really like your jerry cans, where did you get them

gmiller0737 02-24-2012 06:17 AM

I have those on My ATV, They make a real neat Rotopax Storage Unit looks just like a can but hinges open for a place to store stuff.

Rescue98 02-24-2012 08:20 AM

I recently saw these in the new Quadratec Mag.
Not a lot of attractive places to put these on the TJ, Unless you have a roofrack.
I would be nice if there was something similar to Expedition One

hartattack 02-25-2012 07:12 PM

Yea that would be my next $ a safari rack you can get the cans at rotopax.com they also have water and emergency pax as well for the trail or survival

This is the new paint job, I will post a pic on the rig

KrzyMoke 02-25-2012 07:58 PM

Well at least you are driving down your road your way. Either way, be safe and have fun :) I did see you had the locks with those so they should be safe from "prying hands"
