Doors off, mirror ideas? Photos?

Everyone knows with the doors off, the mirrors come with them, and i also know there are relocation brackets but I dont really want those, so I was hoping someone had some ideas/photos for replacement mirrors just to have when the doors are off.

Crappy pic, but this is simply a Harley Davidson mirror slipped in the top hinge.

The HD mirror works fine, but I plan to go with the relatively new Rugged Ridge quick release mirrors when doors off weather gets here again.

No pics, but I put a stick on convex mirror on the driver's side vent, so I can spin the vent closed when I need the mirror.

I am also using Harley Mirrors.

I also use a harley mirror in my 94' YJ. Slides into the top hinge and a nut goes on the bottom. I keep it in my center console when the doors are on.

I just received the Rugged Ridge door off mirror kit which is also called the quick disconnect mirrors in the mail yesterday. I'm hoping to have some pics up soon.

Here's a link to some photos and write-up of my Rugged Ridge quick-release mirrors. I love them, especially when I added my tube doors which didn't allow me to use my Harley mirrors any more.

I run a pair of Harley mirrors with a custom bracket I fab'd up.

The door hinge is too low to be effective on the passenger side.

Here are rhe rugged ridge quick release mirrors. Which I have made permanent since I broke off one of my mirrors on a trail. DOH!

As you can see I run them with the doors on and off no probs. I did add a convex mirror for the rather large blind spot that these really small mirrors create.

You should sell those. I would be your first costumer.

Can you see outta the passenger side one at all? Thought I'd read a post a while back that it was hard to see when it was mounted forward of the door opening like that.

Could be confusing it with another kind of mirror setup, though.

LilYeller 02-23-2012 05:45 AM

I can see fine out of the pass side. Its the factory mirror relocator brackets that have issues. The factory mirrors dont stick out far enough to see out of when the doors are on. these are great tho. You can kind of see it sits at a different angle in this pic

I made mine out of 3/8 aluminum rod, put a bend at the bottom and threaded at both ends, bolted the mirror at the top and put it in the hinge and bolt it on.

Got these knock-Harley clones on ebay and run them through the top hinge. Have to pull the passenger side almost into the doorway to see.

Are the Harley mirrors stem pretty much universal?

Yes, there 1/2" coarse metric thread I believe. Most any motor cycle screw on mirrors will work. I run 1 mirror on my driver side to be compliant in my state. I have a generic round chrome mirror from an old honda in a guys yard. I was too cheap to spend 40 bucks for a new one.

MrSig 07-13-2012 04:03 AM

This is what I did. Look at the AC vent too.

I found these 6" Chrome Round mirrors at Loves truck stop, and made my own brackets, and plasti dipped. The passenger bracket sticks out farther, and I have zero blind spots. I love em, can see better than with the factory mirrors.

Heres a drivers view of the RR quick release mirrors with the doors on, I replaced the flat useless mirror with a convex lense and its perfect:

Parents will know about the kid mirrors that you stick to the window. I have one on each side, maybe five inches long. Top left and ride sides of the interior window. Work great and they both costs under $10 total.

I also have the RR quick release mirrors but I haven't used them with the doors on. The doors don't hit them fully opened?

I agree about the useless flat mirror. I also replaced the passenger side with a 5" convex mirror.

DIY adjustable door straps, cost around $5 the materials list is in my build thread which can be found in my signature. I made mine permanent since I broke my drivers side mirror off my door while storing my doors. But its a win cause the doors are easier to store without the mirrors :thumb:

I use Universal replacement mirrors from Autozone. They were about $15.00 each I did have to pick up some longer bolts from Lowes, even the passenger side is useful.

Chris M 07-13-2012 09:10 PM

This is the only pic I've got of my current set up. I'm running Rugged Ridge mirrors that mount to the exterior window frame on a bracket. I bought a couple of filler plates for the doors and just leave these mirrors on so I don't have to go on and off.
