My first year of Mods!

Well I figure I'll share what little stuff I have done to make my jeep mine in the first year of ownership. Hopefully you may see something you like or have suggestions for more mods, if so please ask or share. Thanks!

Did my custom stereo, the pods were easy to mod and I think it turned out looking nice.

Did my headlight surrounds, thanks to my friends on here for that idea!
I also put in a dead pedal and hope to begin lifting and putting on some new wheels and tires soon. Thanks for looking and any ideas you may add!

How did u take the bezels off. I tried taking mine off and it would not come out.

Drock1979 02-22-2012 04:32 PM

They were a little stuck and you just got to wiggle them around so they fit around the light just right. Thats assuming that you unscrewed them first. Lol. But fairly easy otherwise.

TBrownSTL 02-22-2012 04:38 PM

I couldn't get my screws out?

Drock1979 02-22-2012 04:46 PM

They are screwed into a rubber/plastic (kinda odd) looking thread and you may have to really work at it. Mine came out fairly easy but I suppose a magnetized screwdriver may help pull them as you turn. also make sure you use the right size torx bit to remove. Other than that, I am not sure what could be the problem.

should be 3 little torx screws per bezel. I forget the actual size of top of my head though.

you couldn't get all of yours out or couldn't get any of them out, or..?

None. Used small torx head.

rusted in there somehow, maybe? the two up on the sides of each bezel are at kind of a funny angle but mine came right out when i started turning them.

lol, I like that you counted them! Yes they are packs of cigs. I smoke enough that I felt the need to install a holder for back up packs, lol. and thanks, I would like to redo it soon, at least hit it with some fresh bedliner to clean it up. It does a nice job of securing my stuff and was free, which is always a good thing.

I just became a supporter, I am hooked lol.

sparkyjeep 02-22-2012 09:54 PM

specs on the sound pods? curious on this...

blue6tj 02-22-2012 10:51 PM

Lookn' really good...

Drock1979 02-22-2012 11:00 PM

Thanks Blue from a guy with a jeep like yours I am flattered!
Sparky, I used 6.5 polk db separates I used the tweets to mark the hole i needed and cut away slightly less size hole used a bead of silicone to seal it up and fit them in place, pretty simple. I then made a small plate to fill in the recessed area where the 5.25 factory speaker was and screwed in the 6.5. I mounted the crossovers inside the pods with some pollyfill and they sound really good with about 55w running to them.

Today is indeed a good day! Just removed the hard top for the year in less than an hour total by my self including reinstalling my soft top. Bl will be ordered Friday and tires at end of month! Getting excited!

Drock1979 03-02-2012 01:41 PM

Just ordered my JKS BL and Brown Dog MML from DPG, can't wait cause then I can fit some new shoes!!!

Looks good, that CB mount is a good idea :thumb:, never thought of mounting it there. Is the mount plate something you fabbed up or something you purchased?

I got it from Quadratec it's very nice but could be fabed pretty easy. I recommend it for sure.

Drock1979 03-11-2012 04:22 PM

Still waiting on my BL from DPG but ordered a set of JKS discos last night. Man waiting for this stuff on a nice day sure sucks!

Drock1979 03-12-2012 04:56 PM

So I finally painted by hardtop interior and it turned out looking much improved. I tested a spot with each of the following..

Attachment 104251

I liked the look of them all but the bed liner scratched off easily which was a big surprise as well as it does on metal. The plasti dip looked sweet but also came off easier than all of them. The fusion seemed to be the toughest on the hardtop material. Once I prepped the windows it was only a few hours job with several breaks to let each coat dry...

Attachment 104255

Attachment 104256

After about 3 cans/ 5 coats I think it turned out looking very factory and look forward to the cold months when it goes back on to see how it upgrades the interior look.

Let me know what you think, and I will post how it holds up after a year or so of taking on and off. Also, my jks BL came today now just waiting on the brown dog MML and JKS discos to prep for new tires at the end of month!

Drock1979 03-13-2012 12:00 AM

Bump since I don't know how to link, lol.

Found it!! That looks awesome!! I just moved to a house with a garage that opens up to the backyard, so I might actually be able to do that. Just got to wait for clearer skies. Supposes to rain off and on through Sunday here. Can't really tell by the pic, but what's holding the hardtop up? and how did you raise it? I get the idea of the sawhorses, with some 2x4's (or are those 2x6's?) and the cross beams.
Thanks!

JPetru82 03-13-2012 12:38 AM

actually I think I can see small ratchet straps holding it up. Correct?

Here's one that I did. 3x4 angle iron - 70 bucks, grade 8 .5" hardware - 10 bucks, can of primer - 10ish bucks, can of bedliner - 10ish bucks. Ended up with a set of rocker guards for about 100 buck (if you take out the money I spent on breaking my hand drilling holes in them).

yup:) I just used stuff I mostly had, it works and is easy enough to use. I get nervous about the ratchets holding up so I rest it on additional 2x4s splitting the weight. The cool thing about it was I lifted the top high enough that I could walk under it to paint. Made it very easy. I think it looks 100x better painted my only wonder is how well it will hold up after some use.

Drock1979 03-13-2012 02:03 AM

That is slick jruss.

Dgrimjeeper 03-13-2012 02:31 AM

Looks great bro! You'll have to post a new thread after next winter about how well the paint held up to the VA summer heat, and your winter wheeling.

Good stuff!
