4WD light always on after connecting lines to transfer case
(Sorry forgot model; 1989, YJ 2.5i with manual gearb.)
I actully had two question, but I have been around before. Asking two question in one thread never gives you both answers :whistling:
My clutch release bearing went last week. (I have manual gearbox)
So I had to purchase a new one (Expensive in Sweden) and then I followed the Haynes. Removed transfer case and gearbox. I suddenly noticed that the big connector with the vacumed lines where laying beside and not connected. I have never had the 4WD light ON, when I shifted into 4WD, but I am 99.5% sure I HAD 4WD atleast.
Now as I saw this I thought that it just had jumped out. After the bearing replacement I put the connector ON the transfer case and finalized the mounting.
The clutch worked ;Great!!!!!:thumb:
BUT, now my 4WD light is always lighting!!!!!
I still THINK that when the 4wd stick is not in 4wd mode, I dont have it and when I put it in 4WD I HAVE 4WD, but I dont get it.
Does anyone know what could be wrong.
What I did notice when driving 2wd is that when I go up a hill and have a high gear and give some throttle, then it goes out for some seconds. Surely has to do with the vacume!?!?!!? but it always lights back on when releasing some throttle.
I also dont get how the 4wd works.
What does the transfer case do and what does the vacum bell do on the front axle????

possable bad vac switch or vac leak, start with vac leak easier to check
But do you mean that a leak could cause vacum to activate the switch?
I thuoght a leak would make the light not to light!?
